How to fix IP addresses.

I have 2 security cameras which send their recordings to an NAS. Every so often the cams stop recording. When I check for the reason I find the IP address of either the cam or the NAS has changed. I am using a Netgear Orbi router. Is there any way to stop this happening? Why are the IP addresses changing? All my other network devices, of which there are 12, never change. I'm sure this has something to do with dynamic DNS but that is a subject that confuses me. Any help would be appreciated.

Disable DHCP and assign static IP addresses.
I would think it would solve it.

Don't disable DHCP, but on your router, under Advanced -> Setup -> LAN Setup -> Address Reservation-section assign IPs to your devices that are preferrably outside of the DHCP range but under same SUBNET. (eg. as an example DHCP range 192.168.0.1-127/255.255.255.0, Static range 192.168.0.128-254/255.255.255.0. This could be something else but you get the drift)

Click Apply and reboot both the router and all your devices. They should all get the IP you assigned manually.

Also now you should write a network map of your devices and their IPs. It helps tremendously when troubleshooting if you know which device should have which IP. Especially if using a lot of devices in large networks.

We all learn something new each day. There was a time when I had no clue what an IP adress is. :wink:

Thanks @SlicEnDicE . I have attached a screenshot of the setup. As you can see, there was just a single range shown, not a DHCP range and static range. I added .4, .5 and .15 to the address reservation. I assume this is the same thing as you were suggesting. Or am I wrong? Also after clicking APPLY, it took around 1 minute to save the changes before the screen you see reappeared so I assume from that a reboot is not required.

Yes, this will work. The devices will get the reserved addresses and DHCP will assign all the rest of the adresses in range .1 - .254 to new devices.

If everything works now, you're all good. If you get communication errors, do the reboot cycle for all devices to fix it.
