How to identify Reclaimable Packages reported as count by "Dism /Online /CleanUp-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore"

"Dism /Online /CleanUp-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore" reports that there are Reclaimable Packages:

Number of Reclaimable Packages : 2
Component Store Cleanup Recommended : Yes

After running "Dism /Online /CleanUp-Image /StartComponentCleanup" the number of Reclaimable Packages does not change.

Is there a way to identify these Reclaimable Packages?

This is an advanced question. Please don't waist your time by suggesting rebooting PC, running sfc and ScanHealth. Please don't post garbage comments or links to other posts. If you know the answer, just provide a command, if not keep your thoughts to yourself, please.

Actual Size of Component Store

This value factors in hard links within the WinSxS folder. It doesn’t exclude files that are shared with Windows by using hard links.

Windows Explorer Reported Size of Component Store

This value the size of the WinSxS folder if computed by Windows Explorer. This value doesn’t factor in the use of hard links within the WinSxS folder.

The persistent reclaimable may be due to hard links.

If reset base is run it can remove superseded versions.

Using the /ResetBase parameter together with the /StartComponentCleanup parameter of DISM.exe on a running version of Windows 10 or later

removes all superseded versions of every component in the component store.

On NTFS volumes, each file can have multiple hard links, so a single file can appear in many directories (or even in the same directory with different names).

Because all of the links reference the same file, programs can open any of the links and modify the file.

A file is deleted from the file system only after all links to it have been deleted.

After you create a hard link, programs can use it like any other file name.

Despite the negative comments from some, this is actually a good question, and one that I'd like to know the answer too as well.

The OP may only have 2 (un)reclaimable packages. I have Insider Beta builds with a dozen or more. StartComponentCleanup does reduce the actual size of the component store after each update, as it should. But these (un)reclaimable packages have persisted for getting on for a year now. I have come to the conclusion that they're probably not really there, rather it's an error in the manifests that makes DISM think they exist. It would be nice to get rid of them though, and identifying each package would be the first step.

Another 24H2 bug.

23H2 does not have this issue.

Aren't we all! @Ed Tittel is another member who has been struggling with this dilemma for as long as I have. This is one of his blogs on the subject from a year ago. I wonder if he has made any progress since?

Yes, I found that one from October 2023 too. This is from September 2024, apparently now Copilot+ PCs have got into the act too...

I have been seeing this issue on an off for more than 6 years, across many versions of Windows. This is the same thing in Windows 10 version 1709. The only thing that ever fixed it was the full Feature Update to the next version.
