Solved How to obtain search . in ascii format on Windows?

Usually the result displayed on screen. (any Windows versions, Windows XP/7/10/11)

If I would do its analysis, I need an ascii format and can open in notepad++

on a specific partition, I can run MS-DOX command dir *.* /s. but for entire PC, all disks, I didn't find a way.

For the DIR command, you can use DIR C:\*.* D:\*.* /s, substitute "C:\" and "D:\" for your disk volumes, add more if you got more.

And you could also send the output directly to a text file
DIR C:\*.* D:\*.* /s >F:\Desktop\MyC-DDirResults.txt
{using a path of your own choosing instead of my example F:\Desktop}

If you want a really good view in ASCII use the syntax below. Note: I'm getting a view of C:\ but specify whatever path you want.

tree C:\ /A /F (note: there is a space between the two slashes)

If you want to save that to a text file do this, replacing C:\FileList.txt with whatever path and filename you want:

tree C:\ /A /F > C:\FileList.txt

EDIT: If it doesn't need to be just plain ASCII, try the same commands without the /A

Personally, I never leave a space after the > symbol before the output file path-name.
DIR C:\*.* D:\*.* /s >F:\Desktop\MyC-DDirResults.txt
But I've been doing so for so long that I cannot remember what can go wrong & in what circumstances things can go wrong if a space is left in there.

I guess it must be a matter of preference. In all my years doing this I have never had a problem putting a space after a redirect. But that doesn't mean that maybe there is some oddball scenario that I am unaware of.
