How to pass the Windows 11 Compatibility Checks

Now if MS tries to DISABLE a computer at LOGIN or OOBE... that's when <rubbish> will hit the fan. I would hope for lawsuits at that point.
The way I see it, is that it’s Microsofts company and it’s their prerogative to do whatever they like. Sure, one is free to override things if one want‘s to and are able to, but a complaint after that choice would be arrogant.
If you want to enter my house, you have to take your shoes off, otherwise, thanks for knocking, I’ll see you next time.

I might agree with you in some cases, but not for something that is deeply rooted into everyone's daily lives: Operating Systems.

If you want to enter my house, you have to take your shoes off, otherwise, thanks for knocking, I’ll see you next time.

Shoes aren't allowed in my house either...(y)but there are times shoes must be worn; like people doing work in the house wearing boots. They use shoe covers... but their boots are wholly "compatible" with walking through the house... even with that "shoe cover" work around.

Now, let's look at what you alluded to as it relates to private property.

Our computers are OUR private property and Windows is designed to run on them... that's why we bought them... with Windows on them... and with MS stating publicly that Windows 10 would be around forever.
For MS to tell us we can either use an outdated and unsecure OS just a few years after buying them... we have a problem; namely because of the UNSECURE aspect.
Now let's take this whole software conversation and apply it to automobiles... Let's pick on Toyota in this case.
Are you okay with Toyota telling you that you DON'T get the "latest and greatest software" - from the Toyota gods - for your private property; for your vehicle to run?
Are you okay with Toyota saying to you: "Sorry antspants, but you need to upgrade your fuel, emissions and airbag systems... or buy a new car to use our awesome software; because yours is no longer compatible... per our decision.. oops, I mean for security reasons."
I guess you'll never reach 100,000 miles now...
Something not working? Mechanic tells you they can't fix it because your software is out of date... and they can't install said software because your HARWARE is NOT SUPPORTED. I'll bet everyone WILL have their panties in a bundle if they experienced this; no doubt.
Oh wait, but it's just a computer... and anyone can buy a new one. I mean, who doesn't have an extra $1,000 bucks lying around just to use a piece of crap OS. I don't use the average consumer brand computer systems. I use business class systems that last 10-15 years easy. I expect to use MY computers until the hardware takes a crap... not when some COMPANY tells me to.
Yes, people can switch to Linux, but most can't for several reasons. Work or school compatibility as it relates to hardware and software support and a plethora of personal reasons.

My laptop for example was released in late 2015. My SKU was $2,300. 8 Years now. My investment comes out to $300 a year. I know for a fact my laptop will last at least another 5 years. That'll be an investment of $177 per year. If MS gets their way... I'll have no choice but to switch to Linux (sooner) as my primary OS and then run Windows 12 ;-) in a VM... assuming they bring back the taskbar Toolbars of course.

My biggest beef with MS is that they have a bad habit of REMOVING stuff. I don't like people who do that or promote it. :steam:

So... we should always embrace cruel change? just because?
I would still encourage you to think about the arguments I've raised and insert yourself into those scenarios.
That's the only way to truly find where you stand.

I’ve risen above alcoholism, heroin, prison & homelessness. I know exactly where I stand in life and take nothing for granted. We make the best we can with what we have. It’s your right to ask for more, less or protest change. To that I wish you well. I’ve always appreciated people who want to fight for what they believe in, regardless of what I think about what they believe.

We’re way off topic here. You post about it in the chillout room, I’ll join in when I can.

with MS stating publicly that Windows 10 would be around forever.
That was revealed to be a marketing tweet. "Right now we’re releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we’re all still working on Windows 10,” Nixon continued. “And it’s really brilliant. So I can say things like, yeah, we’re working on interactive tiles and it’s coming to Windows 10 in one of its future updates, right.”

Honestly, I would love to see this. MS always said updates might not continue if you used the MS-supplied and published workarounds.
For many of us who have always advised against installing on unsupported hardware, I for one will have to strap myself into my chair so I do not fall out of it laughing so hard.

I know the majority here are going to crap on me for my position but everyone was warned.

By 2025 there will be plenty of quality compatible low-cost refurbs available to replace your non-compatible system.

Even the 7th gen systems will be about 8 years old by then.

Well said.

Hell, I built my machine a year before Windows 11 came out. I was fine straight out of box.

At anyone else:

Don't want to run Windows 11? Good. Don't want to run it on bare metal? Good. You have options. They can do what they want when they want regarding their software. It's not like you're left out in the cold without a PC to do anything with.

People are still running older Windows OSs, pre-10, and I have VMs of XP, 7 and 8 that can be used for basic stuff. Add all the Linux distros out there, and even throwing ChromeOS (via the Flex program) onto laptops, and you've got more options than you can list in an hour speaking non-stop.

Now tell that to someone who uses their system to make a living...? Now they must either buy a new computer that Microsoft approves for them, or stay on software that will be vulnerable soon?

Keep in mind we're talking about the average person; not people who can easily and quickly switch between the various operating systems. Those people are not in these forums, unless they are looking for simple answers to questions they likely do not fully understand. Those people live in the Windows World, because that's what they use for/at work, schools, in government, libraries, etc.

It's an interesting position coming from people who visit support forums looking for help...

It's also a position that drives excessive e-waste. What happens to all the hardware that software no longer supports? More hardware every year = more e-waste. For example, the newest computer I own is 8 years old... and will easily last many more... unless I bow to the Microsoft God and relinquish my computers to the Big Tech Landfills?

These are things we need to consider before supporting and cheerleading positions held by large corporations that directly impact peoples lives. People like you and I are far and few. We can get by without dropping money on new hardware. MOST people cannot.

However, I'll say that your position on control and authority as it relates to Microsoft, is inline with your antidisestablishmentarianist position.

lmfao - vulnerable soon?

Not for another 2 years minimum.

Sorry, but the arguments are irrational at this point in time. If it was 2025 today, and Microsoft sprung this upon us just now, with little time to plan and upgrade as necessary,, yes, I could see there being an issue. There are over 2 years before Windows 10 22H2 hits EoL.

And, in 2025, you can still opt to buy a cheap machine built to be fully compatible with Windows 11 that was manufactured in 2022 or later, you won't have to shell out thousands of dollars on a brand new machine. Already machines that are 3 years old are fully compatible, but that time it will be machines that are 5 years old.

Keep things in full perspective.

Oh, and I make a living working from home on my PC. Just so you know.
