Solved How to Prevent OneDrive from stealing Desktop?

Desktop is not synced into OneDrive, not locally, not online.
When I click on Manage via Windows icon, it is always synced.
When I click on Manage via systray icon, it is not synced period.
I use this script to quickly clear desktop, OneDrive is not cleaned.
I use desktop for downloads, I want it cleaned instantly if needed.

And if I remove Onedrive's desktop, I get an error unless I move any file into it. Then it becomes, unremovable by a script again.

EDIT: OK, it seems that I have answered my own question, I have to recreate this nonsense myself.

It is not really a solution, just a workaround, so if you have any tips, please advice. Thank you.

EDIT: After moving desktop to the default location, it seems to have fixed the issue.

Personally, I disabled OneDrive and everything associated with it. I have no problems at all with it screwing with my files now.

Yeah, I would definitely categorize OneDrive as an annoyance, but I pay $20 yearly for the convenience and I want that convenience.

Whatever blows your hair back. I have cloud backup that doesn't stick it's nose into my business so far and think it knows better than me where I want to keep my files!

Sadly, I do this as part of my setup routine, but it does not do squad. OneDrive overrules all.
I want to use OneDrive, but not for everything, but I guess MS is like, all or nothing. No choice.

Did you turn off folder backup syncing for the desktop folder before you moved the desktop folder to Z. If you didn't, that's the problem.

Yup, disable it. But don’t uninstall it as it is ingrained in the OS.

I only use local account so uninstalled onedrive back in 2019 with no issues.
Install folder is still there but empty.

The answer has been posted many, many times here. If Onedrive is not dealt with correctly from the get-go, it can and does come back to haunt you later.
That's a fact. The worst advice anyone can give is "Oh, just uninstall Onedrive." The worst thing a user can do is try to get around Onedrive without taking the correct steps in the right order to do so.
None of my user folders are associated with Onedrive though I use a Microsoft user account.

I use Office 2021and am signed into it with my MS account but never save files to Onedrive

I never signin to Onedrive through Windows. I never click on the onedrive folder from within windows because MS could link me to it because I'm signed into windows with a MS account.. I have Onedrive startup disabled. I have not uninstalled Onedrive because sometimes an Office update reinstalls it.

I still use my Onedrive storage through its web interface only.

I use lifetime IceDrive as a proper cloud backup, but I like OneDrive as a nonstop sync, not as a backup.
But since I pay for it, I expect it to work as intended, but it has mind of it's own. It needs persuading.

This is how to use OneDrive as an external drive. It allows a one-way sync and you can use FreeFileSync to sync if you want.

There's nothing wrong with the app. It works exactly as it's designed to. The problems arise because folks don't understand how it integrates with a MS account and the fact that users aren't given a clear, up front choice to opt out. The problems get worse when a user tries to deal with OneDrive incorrectly. I'd wager that at least 50% of windows users have no clue their data is not on their system drive. They just don't get it.

And that becomes a problem if your Internet access goes down. You then don't have access to your data and the system doesn't work properly.

Why would anyone pay for a subscription to store a few GB of files remotely when it only costs a couple hundred for 16TB of external storage that can be accessed directly or through a LOCAL network? Make it make sense...
