But what is the default volume name in boot menu?

My Computer

System One

  • OS
    Windows 11
The boot menu doesn't use the volume label. It only references the Windows drive letter along with the boot menu name. Usually the boot menu name is the OS name (ex: "Windows 11")

The volume label is just the name of the drive you see in "This PC" in File Explorer.

From your screenshot, it shows two separate boot menu entries for "Windows" on the C: drive and "Windows 11" on the D: drive.

Were you suppose to have two boot menu entries, or were you trying to rename "Windows" on C: drive to "Windows 11" instead.

I wanted to rename C to "Windows 11" and D to the default name. What is the default name in boot menu for drives that have no label at the time the menu is created?

My Computer

System One

  • OS
    Windows 11
The default volume label is "Local Disk", but this doesn't matter for a boot menu name.

The default boot menu name is the OS name like "Windows 11". If you have more than one Windows 11 installed, then you might use something like "Windows 11 Home" for one and "Windows 11 Pro" for the other depending on what they are.

Did you add the second "Windows 11" on "D" by mistake?

If so, you can delete it, and rename the "Windows" boot entry to "Windows 11" instead.
