How to see seconds for Windows 11 clock?

For the release build the taskbar has only just got 'seconds' with the most recent optional 'preview' CU. I'm hoping that Patch Tuesday will add the switch in Settings too.

Sorry. My previous post was misleading. I am on the optional "preview" build (1635), and as Bree points out, that's where the action is until day after tomorrow (P. Tues.). I believe our friend @larrydonline is on that one, too.

Now I'm happy. Thanks Wisewiz. I liked the app I used on my old machine better because it also showed day of the week. But getting the seconds was most important and now I see them.

Don't need the app to do that. Just settings.

Mine reads with the day and date before the month because I set it that way (I live in Canada).

Yours could read "Sunday, May 7, 2023" if you wished. Back in a minute with instructions for settings.

Control Panel (if you don't have a shortcut, type the words in the top of the Start menu) >
Date and Time >
Change Date and Time >
Change Calendar Settings >
Additional Settings >
Date tab (at the top) >
Look at the short guide on that panel (ddd, dd, etc.) and see my settings for what you see in the previous post in my clock.
Set yours up (you can repeat all this until you get it the way you want it), and then
HIT OK when you're finished in that panel.

I found that screen however mine doesn't have any way to set both the short date and the long date the same.

The long date would give me what I want but it seems that the short date controls and I don't see a way to have it ignored so the long date will control.

Oh, I found it. I just copied the long date and pasted it into the short date and now I have Day, Month, day of month, year. Just what I wanted to see. Thanks.

Hi there! You stopped before you got to the right screen. You're looking at Region. Keep going. Go down and click Additional Settings, then in Customize Format, click the Date tab near the top of the screen (there are 4 tabs there), and follow the rest of my instructions in that new panel. When you have it looking the way you want it (the top two displays show the results of your settings), go down and click OK. DO NOT click Reset. That sets you back to the system defaults, and you have to start all over again.

I'm signing off for a good night's sleep, and I'll check in on you in the morning (here in Souther Ontario). Keep working on it, my friend. You'll get it the way you want it eventually. Come back for more help if you need it.

One last thing: you can choose your punctuation (comma, slash, period, dash, nothing but space, etc.) and type it in, on the last screen I tried to get you to.

The problem with altering the short and long dates is that it also affects the dates in File Explorer.
If that doesn't bother you, then it's all good.

I prefer this three row setup using ElevenClock. Windows 11 has a HUGE taskbar with lots of unused space. May as well use that space.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to monitor File Explorer and see how that's changed. I have 26 icons pinned to the taskbar and there's still room for the search bar to type into. I want to find a way to change the icons since some of them are white and hard to see on the taskbar.

You won't be able to change the icons, but you can try changing the taskbar colors in Settings > Personalization > Colors.

I need to post one more time Stigg to thank you for the color tip on the taskbar. It's made the icons snap right out for easy seeability. It looks smart too on the screen. So much help available here if you only know how to ask.
