How do I stop office 2016 being automatically upgraded to Office 2019 in Windows 11?

I hate Office 2019 and I haven't been able to successfully install my Office 2016 again in Windows 11.

Thanks.

  • OS
    Windows 10 Insider Preview 21390
Open any program (Word for instance)> Click on File upper left> Scroll down to Account on lower left< Click on Update Options drop down to left of Office Updates> Click on Disable updates

It will then show This product will not be updated. You won't get any security updates for 2016 either (if any)

I have never seen a stand-alone copy of Office get upgraded without purchasing it.
Neither have I but I just went to open my Word 2016 one day and it was Word 2019!! My 2016 was licenced and activated but not the 2019 version that got mysteriously installed!

Confusing issue to me.
If your current version of Office is a one-time purchase (2016) (not subscription based ) version then Office will not upgrade to a later version (for example 2019).
To get Office 2019 then you would need to purchase another one time purchase licence and then install it, as far as my experience with the different versions.

EDIT - Unless there was a trial install of Office 2019 on your system some where. If that is the case then yep, uninstall 2019.

Guess someone installed it without getting a license.

Hi,
Just installed 2016 pro plus couple weeks ago
I've been using win-10 lately but would be interesting if ms auto updates 2016 to 2019 for free.

Don't think ms can legally upgrade you to 2019 and ask for money after
Free well that would be a neat trick but seriously doubt it but never say never.

You must of agreed to try 2019 at some point in a popup message.
