My neighbor just bought an HP Z2 G4 Desktop to replace their old desktop that wasn't compatible with Windows 11. It does not have a Hard drive, as he wants to put the hard drive that was in their old computer in the Z2 G4. He also bought a different video card than what it came with, that he wants to put in it.

But we are trying to see where we need to connect the hard drive to, to the motherboard as well as the video card to the power supply. He has more cables coming that he ordered.

They asked me to help since I am more technically inclined, but I did let them know that I was more inclined on the software part of computers.

I am seeking help from you all at the forums because y'all always are able to help me.

They didn't want to get rid of the hard drive because it has the data on it from their old computer.

What form factor is the drive, what form factor is the graphics card?

Most likely it's going to be SATA(drive) and PCIe (GPU) which you can buy a data cable online. GPUs will often have high power requirements so need to make sure the PSU in the new system can support it.

Transfer everything to an SSD. They're cheap these days. Since its a multi core workstation in the Z line, go Pro for Workstations for best performance.

The blue plastic piece is just part of the case, the smaller black piece "Kingston" is the drive and it's a 2.5 SATA so you can just take the whole thing + the data cable (smaller cable with metal clip) and transfer it to the new computer. The new computer should have a SATA power cable and they only go on one way. If the new computer doesn't have a 2.5 SATA slot you can buy a craddle so the 2.5 will fit in the bigger slot. The GPU is probably PCIe- x16 and should fit assuming there is a x16 slot.

All the connectors are keyed, so you really can't plug them in the wrong place

I mean no offense, and my opinion is not worth much, but if I was dealing with a brand new computer that belongs to someone else rather than being mine, and wasn't sure what I was dealing with, I would ask someone knowledgeable about hardware who can see the actual hardware you are dealing with and who can get their hands on it.
