I'm going to be setting up a HTPC and I'm looking at this Mini PC. I only plan on using it as an HTPC and I'm wondering if the systems specs are ok. Amazon.com

That's similar (or better) than the specs I had for the HTPC that I ran for a few years... as long as the media isn't stored on that system (since the drive is kind of small) you should be set... Seems like good specs to me for the tasks you're talking about. I assume you'll be streaming via Emby or Plex to your systems/TVs?

The Celeron J3455 in it was introduced in 2016, so it's not a recent model.

One site (GistGear) lists its HDMI ports as version 1.4, which don't usually support 4k TVs. (2160p at 30Hz max, no HDCP 2.2.) The claimed 4k support may be mostly nonsense. If you need 4k, this may not be the mini PC you want.

Cheap, though.

The media will be on a WD external drive. I will be using either Mezzmo or Plex as the software. I wasn't sure if the Intel Celeron would cause a problem.

Thanks for the replies. I want to keep the cost down and wasn't sure if if the Intel Celeron would cause me any problems. I was going to use my wife's old HP AIO but I don't really have a good spot to set it up. With his device I can set it up behind the TV.

I'd buy the one you linked... set it up on my normal desk, get everything up and running, then install TeamViewer... after that, hook it up behind the tv with no mouse/keyboard and use TV to control what I need to do that's not run directly through the HTPC software (Plex, Emby, Mezzmo).

I still haven't looked into Mezzmo yet, but I'll do that shortly.

It's $30 more expensive, but it has 2×HDMI 2.0 instead of 2×HDMI unspecified so probably 1.4, a faster CPU with HD Graphics 600 instead of 500, DDR4 RAM instead of DDR3, passive cooling, 4×USB3 instead of 2×USB2+2×USB3 and an M.2 NVMe slot. It lacks the 2.5 inch SATA bay, though, which is not usually important anymore these days IMO in a HTPC anyway.
Since the HD Graphics (iGPU) feature─that's built-in into the Intel CPU─is what does the video decoding under most circumstances (using modern-day codecs such as 10-bit HEVC with HDR support in 4k Blu-ray movies and the like...), the 600 is more power efficient so it generates less heat (and saves on the electric bill in the long run). The faster CPU and RAM also mean that it installs Windows updates faster, etc. so I think it's well worth that extra cash.

Thanks for the suggestion of using TeamViewer. I was thinking about just connecting the mini-PC to the HDMI switch I have connected to my TV and temporarily using a USB mouse and keyboard to set it up. I'm using Mezzmo because I used it years ago to connect it to my WD TV box. If I need it, I did buy a license for the full version. I don't plan on accessing my media streamer from the internet, so I haven't activated the full version. I'm going to try Plex and see what program I like best.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm trying to keep the cost at a minimum (don't want the wife to get upset with me). I won't be doing 4K so I should be able to achieve what I want with minimum specs. I was worried that the CPU being a Intel Celeron on this mini PC that It would cause a lot of buffering. I was looking at going with a much more expensive Beelink mini PC. until I saw this mini PC. I don't plan on using the mini PC for any other use. The only program that I plan on installing is going to be Mezzmo or Plex so the drive capacity is ok.

The superior unit Winuser suggested also uses a Celeron (J4125). It's a few years newer, and has a base clock of 2.0Ghz rather than the 1.5GHz of the older unit.

Whether either would be adequate for your needs, I don't know. I don't use an HTPC.

With the $33 coupon, this one is currently only $204.99 and it also uses an Intel Celeron J4125 in addition to it being also passively cooled:

I placed my order for the mini–PC I posted. It should be here tomorrow. Once I get it setup and test it, I'll post my results.
With the $33 coupon, this one is currently only $204.99 and it also uses an Intel Celeron J4125 in addition to it being also passively cooled:
That is definitely a mini PC. :) If the one I ordered doesn't meet my needs I'll return it and check into that one.

Please let us know how the mini PC works out for you. For that kind of price, I'm sure that there'll be interest, if it is usable as an HTPC.

I'm in the process of setting it up. The Widows setup didn't offer me the US English option. I had to choose English UK. Now when I start up the computer, I have to switch to the US English keyboard. I also have to switch the keyboard to US once Windows is loaded. I also noticed that in the settings box instead of saying Windows Insider Program it says Windows Insider Programme. I think I'm going to try to do a reset and start over.

I think I may have solved some if not all of the language problem. I downloaded the US language pack. I'm not sure if I need to download the other options listed. I'm making a Windows 10 Pro ISO with the media creation tool just in case I need to do a clean install. I might even make a Windows 11 install media. From what I read on the Q/A on Amazon It will run Windows 11.

I was thinking about doing a clean install, but things are starting to work as they should. I do need to remind myself that with an Intel Celeron CPU things are going to take a little longer. Once the store apps get updated, I'm going to install Macrium and do a system Image. Now that the US keyboard and language seems to be fixed, I think I'm going to like this mini pc.

Here's another example from the same brand as the one that you have ordered and that also has the better specs, currently priced at $206.50 so, to me, it looks to be a much better deal from what I can see:

Better specs = more future proof and you save more money as a result from lower power consumption. And it also is cheaper anyway to begin with, but.. you're the boss! :p
