I have ground rods too and even my cable is grounded. I also have a device that lets me know every time we get a spike or a surge. We get them every day. In some ways today's computers are better. I wouldn't venture to say they are better in all ways. I've seen PCs that were bricked because someone thought that a simple power bar with "surge protection" was good enough. These were not exactly vintage computers. It is amazing what an electrical storm can do despite having ground rods. Nonetheless user preference prevails. I prefer to err on the side of caution.I have ground rods on my home and electrical. Today's computers are better than the old days... plus, no telephone line modems to blow up...

- Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
