I can't seem to create a windows 11 login pin.

Windows 11 version: 23H2 (os build 22631.3880)
Built specs are: Asus Z790 Tomahawk mobo, intil i5 cpu, corsair memory, 2tb Samsung ssd.

The entire install went sideways from the getgo. I had to use a USB wifi adaptor because windows 11 pro doesn't know what it's doing on this mobo with network settings.

Windows 11 pro is installed, but when I start the computer, I get a live.com popup that prompts me to login to the account.
It then asks if I want to create a pin, but the process fails and it says I have to login to the account online to fix the problem.
I tried to do that but don't see any possible way of solving this.

fwiw I did the install without putting in the windows key, but i've activated it now.

Can someone walk me through this?

Yes, but when I select the sign in options I only have four options:
Facial recognition (windows hello)
Fingerprint recognition (windows hello)
Pin (windows hello)
Security key

When I select the Pin option, I get a "setup" box. When I click on that it give me the create a pin option, which immediately fails if I click on it. I get an "Oops, something went wrong
There is a problem with your Microsoft account. To fix this, sign into account.live.com from a browser.
I've done this and have no idea what i'm supposed to do there.

You should be able to go to Accounts>Your Info> Sign in with a Microsoft Account instead, from within Windows. (Post No.3 above)

To be honest, I have no experience with a local account so I may have to step aside and let someone who actually knows what they’re talking about to help you. I’m sorry that I made no difference.

Seems like something may be broken.

Neither one of those work, i've tried both a half dozen times each.
I found this fix online but it doesn't work either. Its from a tech guru whose videos have helped me in the past. It goes deep down into windows settings, but it didn't work either.


I'm going to try one more installation on this, and if it doesn't go right, then Micro Center is getting the motherboard back. It's not Microsoft's responsibility to make every new piece of hardware work with windows, that's the job of the motherboard manufacturer.
Thanks for trying guys. But it's back to the drawing board for me.

The reinstall worked. This time entered the windows serial key at the beginning, and instead of using live mail I tried the outlook address. Why that would fix anything is beyond me, but it worked.

There's a lot of hits on the internet for the "oops something went wrong, There is a problem with your Microsoft account" error in creating a pin, and one of them directly mentioned this Micro Center motherboard.
Even the bios is non standard, it's like they tried to reinvent everything without ensuring windows 11 compatibility.

Now that I have the working pin, i'm running into other problems, for one i'm not able to save to desktop, which i've posted about in this thread:

Unable to save to desktop. No desktop option in user account menu.

As with a similar thread from months ago, the normal user account menu doesn't show the option for saving to desktop. That user eventually suggested clicking on the Onedrive folder, and selecting desktop from there. I did that, but it didn't work. And like the other thread, this has nothing to...

The basic specs are in my first post. MSI Tomahawk mobo, 32gb Corsair memory, 850 watt Corsair PSU, Intel 13something i5, 2tb Samsung 870 evo. But for what it's worth, this is basically solved.
