Recently I began experiencing problems with starting the classic paint programs (both from Vista and Win7). Starting the executable takes about 2 minutes till the window appears. It seems, this happens regardless whether Windhawk is running. Does anyone experience the same? Any ideas on how to fix?

Search for Winaero Classic Paint. It is a utility that reinstalls the good old Microsoft Paint (desktop version). In my PC it loads in a couple of seconds.

I am talking exactly about this. It takes 2 mins to start.

Uninstall, restart, reinstall. If that doesn't work, use a utility such as Revo Uninstaller to remove all traces of it and then try again.

Not installed paint from Vista also takes 2 minutes to start.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
We had PaintShop Pro 3.12 at University. I liked too much that I copy-pssted the folder from Program Files. I just copy it to any computer and use it. It works in all Windows version from Windows 98 to Windows 11.

it's a standalone app. the size is about 3 MB. should be running fast.
what's RAM? 1GB? or 2GB?

I can run it in any computer, my main PC (see 2nd system specs) has 16GB RAM. It can even run in Windows XP with 512MB RAM or less, if you are VERY patient. The original computers I think were running Windows NT 4.0 with is the equivalent "professional" version of Windows 98 (home version). Since Windows XP the 9x series were abandoned and all versions are based on the Windows NT kernel. It is NT 5.0 for 2000, NT 5.2 for XP, NT 6.0 for Vista, NT 6.1 for 7, NT 6.2 for 8, NT 6.3 for 8.1, NT 6.4 for Windows 10 RTM, later changed to Windows 10.0 to match the Windows 10 Mobile version number. Modern Windows 10 versions as 10.0.1xxxx and Windows 11 versions are 10.0.2xxxx, so 10 and 11 are almost the same with different skin, hence they share the same drivers.
