I need a new thin board for mounting my laptop

My current pressboard is wearing out. It's about 16" x 12"

I'd prefer something like thin pressboard but I might consider using plastic as well. Or even a thin wood cutting board.

I use a Trip-Lite self-powered hub mounted on the current thin board with velcro to hold it and my 14" laptop in place. I also have a 1TB HDD velcroed on to the back of the board so I have quick access to it.

I am going to need a new thin board, though. I've tried googling but I haven't seen anything that's thin enough to use. All too thick.

Any suggestions?

Might need to check a cabinet maker shop due to size [lumberyard and Amazon have 4'x8' sheets] but I like the darker tempered hardboard/Masonite. I am now using a white plastic insert from a doggy door used to block/close off access [saved when the storm door was replaced], it's a bit over 12"x18" with a smooth side and other side has ribs to make it rigid, just an idea.

The board is tempered hardboard or Masonite, usually carried local lumberyards or Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. The plastic I mentioned was part of the dog-door device on my storm door the I kept when I replaced the door. This is the dog door and the left part slides in to block access when desired, probably isn't available as a separate part:


Having been raised on a farm I have a habit of not throwing things away, usually something I may need later on [3 days or more].

Home Depot
They sell partial sheets of plywood of all types.

For example...

These are all 2ft. x 2ft.
Just grab whatever strikes your fancy and have them cut it to whatever size you want.




Or... if you're handy with the tools... build yourself a laptop desk.
Assume 1/4" or 3/16" thick material.

That's too bad it isn't separate, but I guess I can ask to see any "dog's doors" as a replacement. Give them the measurements I need, but I wont be holding my breath on being successful with it.

Yeah, mine has rounded edges to it. No sharp 4 corners. And it's smooth on the flip side (bottom). And I'd want something that doesn't splinter or flake.

Like I said, I have good luck with pressboard in the past. This does give me some ideas, though.

Maybe some... Large cutting boards



You can also get glass or plastic, cut to size with smooth edges.
Just call a glass or plastics retailer.
