The amount of livestream productions I'm designing or consulting on, grows weekly..., if I, for some crazy reason, lost my big rig, I'd go berserk! :zany:

I have my reasons for never running Win 10 on my work station. Despite all my challenges with Win 11 I still put it on my work station. Win 11 does have more promise than Windows 10 but it still falls short of my expectations. I run Win 10 on PCs I don't worry about so much. I haven't used a decent Windows OS that I could feel good about using to the point of praise since Win 7. That is also why I still use Win 7.

I think Windows 11 is an improvement over Windows 10. Stigg probably misses Cortana and hey, that's their right. Some people love the Windows key logger edition. Myself, I could care less for it. Another thing I find repugnant is having to do major surgery on an OS to cut out the bloatware, spyware, adware, fearware, and junkware that comes with it. Windows 11 backed off of that considerably so I can give them an atta boy for that, but who knows? Perhaps they'll start cramming that stuff back into our operating systems via updates and secure it with TPM2.

Windows Vista was a painful growing experience that led to the best OS Microsoft ever released: Windows 7.
Windows 8 was a nightmare that was short-lived and Windows 8.1 was an improvement but only a compromise.
Windows 10 was the love child of a megalomaniac and an idolatrous erotic fantasy for pubescent boys lost in shooter games.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. I can't say how many Windows 10 OS I've had to butcher just to get a half decent operating system that could pass for respectable.

(BTW have you tried the new Archlinux "guided install") -- it's not bad -- not quite 100% but working reasonably. Once you've booted the archlinux latest iso - from the archlinux # prompt after login just type archinstall. Choose GRUB also when it asks you for a boot loader -- not all of the other boot loader options work - I'm still playing around with it -- also don't select choose mirrors as there's stil a defect I'm messing with in the script --it's like an ikea store - you can't get out of that section !!!! willl be fixed soon).

Incidentally you can run your "physical windows" from within a VM if you install KVM/qemu - just set the boot device to the disk, external usb device or whatever. You need to install the virtio drivers though --no problem on a "Real system" - doesn't do any harm - quite useful to have the same windows both as a VM and as a Real machine especially if it's on a Windows to Go device !)

I created the "Real windows by first creating a VM and then copying it to a real machine -- and then adding the physical drivers plus other applications. Now the same windows runs in both environments. It also makes it easier to run applications in a VM when the HOST OS doesn't know about the hardware too --even for pcie devices as you can simply add thepcie device in the VM's config,

How often do YOU buy services from companies that constantly remove services that others enjoy? Do you go online and rave about it? Yay! They removed the heated pool services in the winter! Oh, well. I never swam in the winter and had no need for those services. Now the company can save money on energy! Yippy!

I always support ADDING features and services... even if I have no interest in using them.

But when one takes a position of … oh well, I don't use them. So what? I think you know where you stand amongst those whom you look to for answers to your issues.

Can't print to your 3D printer? Sorry, dude. I don't use those services.

These are just some things to think about when it comes to a companies role in peoples lives... support good decisions that ADD value, not bad decisions that TAKE value.

You asked what I thought, I told you what I thought, as a customer and user of Windows, now you are telling me I should think differently, so there was no point asking for my opinion in the first place was there?
I do not support adding features and services unless those features and services are needed, likewise I don't have a problem with removing services and features if they are not needed.
As far as Windows 10/ 11 are concerned, being the topic of discussion here, not swimming pools and 3D printers which are not computer operating systems, the changes from 10 to 11 have had no detrimental impact on my use of my PC and programs and have made things more stable and secure.
It is entirely possible for two different customers of the same service to hold opposing views and that is fine, nothing that Microsoft have done with Windows 11 has taken value away from my perspective, as a customer.
If you feel different and prefer to stick with an older version of the OS then that is your right.

I rather liked the '3D' buttons and interface - even if they did slow everything down. In my opinion, the move to the flat 'Apple style' more cartoon-like windows interface in Windows 7 was a disappointment. Of course, in terms of speed and in many other ways, Windows 7 was an overall improvement.

I see this continous debate all the time: Windows 7 is the best OS, Windows 10 was better than Windows 11; yet no one seems to give an actual technical reason other than some UI changes or niche features which were used by like 5% of users.

The operating system is simply there for the user to run their applications on, there is many different operating systems available to use, if you don't like Windows 11 then either stay with Windows 7/10 or just switch to an alternative like BSD, Solaris or Linux.

I do wonder, specifically with Insider builds, how many of the changes are due to A/B testing?

Ah yes, the good ole XP days. Back when the OS crapped out and slowed down to a crawl about every 6 months and had to be reinstalled from scratch.

Only if you didn't use backup software.

I ran XP for 12 years straight... never had to reinstall once.

Norton Ghost 2003. Best backup software... ever.

Won't run on any Windows after Vista.
