Does anybody here have experience with the ThisIsWin11 tool? I'm getting ready to upgrade my Win10 Pro computers to Win11 and think I want to perform much of the customization that this tool purports to perform, but it sounds a bit overwhelming. It also looks like a procedure I would want to perform only once (and export the results) rather than performing once on each of my 4 computers.

I tried some debloating script on Win10, but it needed a lot of customization, and my knowledge of the inner working of Windows - what was necessary vs. what was optional - was poor enough that I ended up having to do a clear reinstall to get back to a working system. I don't want repeat that experience with Win11.

An issue with customizing Win10 and Win11 is the semi-annual Version Upgrades and maybe some of the Build updates to them in resetting some of the defaults or uninstalled features and being restored to the defaults. My understanding about the Version Upgrade is it will be done only once a year and in the the second half of the year, supposedly Win11 will get it as 22H2, no 22H1, same for Win10.

I would not recommend using any tools to customise Windows at all. It's going to cause problems because most of the developers who develop said tools rarely have sufficient knowledge to make the changes correctly. Windows 11 is just a feature update to Windows 10, you shouldn't have to make many changes, if at all.

...they're annual Feature Updates from now on, for both 10 and 11.

I use Window 11 as it is with only one addition, a simple 3rd-party app that recreates just one function that was in 10 but was left out in 11.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. I don't know that I'd agree with that . My wide just got a Surface Pro tablet with Win11 preinstalled. If nothing else, it had a bunch of bloat-ware that wasn't in Win10 (and Win10 already has a bunch of bloat-ware). I could/did manually delete a lot of those but some I couldn't delete.

If it came with Windows 11 preinstalled then it will do it, otherwise you should have very little installed.

I don't see the point of it. According to the documentation (what little there is):

The program does not support pinning apps to the taskbar using the drag and drop gesture, and this feature is currently not planned so how is it of any use? Just curious.

Try this trivial example in Windows 10 (or any previous version, come to that). Then try the same thing in Windows 11.

Open Notepad and minimise it. Open File Explorer, click and hold on a .txt file and drag it over the Notepad Icon on the Taskbar. Notepad will come back up and you can drop the file into it to open the text file in Notepad.

This is a function that has been in all previous versions of Windows, but was left out of Windows 11.

Typically I will select dozens of image files and drag and drop them into my running PaintShop Pro to edit them. Without this little app what I used to do in one drag and drop would now take dozens of 'File > Open' operations.

Ah, I wouldn't miss that since I never do it but I can see you're point.

Would that open separate instances of PSP, one for each image? If so that is pretty cool.

I'm not sure why, but when I highlight a bunch of images, I can still drag/drop them into Photoshop to edit them, if that's what you're talking about with PSP... and I don't have any tweaks for that installed.

Yes, if you can already see windows for both the File Explorer and your Photoshop (or my PSP) then you can easily drag from one and drop to the other.

The case I'm talking about is where you can't see the window to drop the files into it. In all versions of Windows before W11 dragging the files over the running app's icon on the taskbar would bring its window to the front, where you could then drop the files into it. This is the function that's missing in W11.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

    My SYSTEM EIGHT is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (5th gen) type 20LN, Celeron N4120, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, a supported device for Windows 11. Currently running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds as native boot vhdx.
@Bree Ah... I've never used that, I always just start the drag to get the files attached to the mouse and Alt+Tab until I opened the app anyway. Forgot you could drag to the icon.
