I am running a second desktop with Windows 10 Pro solely connected to my Nikon Film scanner connected with Firewire. I still hesitate to upgrade it to Windows 11 Pro after reading that Win 11 doesn't natively support firewire. Would appreciate any advice.

It's been a few years since I last worked with Firewire, don't think there's many computers that the port. There are adapters available from USB to Firewire. Could try that on a Win11 for inexpensive testing. Does Nikon have software available? Most things that work on Win10 will work on Win11 such as drivers.

Another thought, might watch the coming offering from Microsoft for a subscription that will extend support for Win10, at least for another year.

I don't see why Windows 11 will not support FireWire maybe there is no new driver for FireWire you can always install old version of the driver also try the upgrade of Windows 11 you can always revert to Windows 10 within 10 days.

Thanks all for the feedback. I would just hate to think to brick a $2K film scanner due to OS obselescence

You can also install Windows 10 version of FireWire driver in Windows 11.

Firewire support is still available, although Win 11 won't look for it automatically. You just need to install the driver manually. See this for details:
