Solved Win 11 Pro PC randomly locking up

Hi guys. In the last two weeks or so, my Win 11 Pro PC has been locking up,, seemingly at random. The mouse can be moved around the desktop, but clicking won't do anything. Alt+Tab doesn't work, and I can't type anything if an open doc had the focus at the lock-up moment. Shift+Ctrl+Win+B to reset the graphics drivers does nothing. I end up having to forcibly shut down using the physical power button on my PC's case.

I have no malware according to both Defender and Malwarebytes (which I knew because I don't download much stuff, nor visit dodgy websites). All my drivers are up to date.

[Edit] I opened up the case and there some mild areas of dust on the motherboard, CPU, and fans, nothing thick, but I've cleaned all that in case overheating was the cause. Is there an app that can tell me if a PC is running too hot, in case that was the cause? But I guess if it doesn't lock up anymore after this dust clean, then that must've been it.

First, list your computer specs...




Then, I would download and run: HWMonitor and see what temperatures you have.
Check the power supply voltages and see if they are in or out of tolerance.

We can't help very much without know what hardware you have.

First you will want to check Event Viewer by Win Key + Search > Event Viewer. Then at the left pane, click on Event Viewer (Local). Click on Error under Critical.
You can also check for WHEA errors by downloading HWinfo and scrolling to the very bottom of the Sensor list.

Choose the portable version (doesn't require an install).

Also try Win Key + Search reliability Monitor to see any red X's.

I would gather logfiles to see if they point to a cause. Though you are not having BSOD, do this according to the above instructions.
Upload the files to any cloud provider. Post a SHARE link to the file here. @zbook will analyze at them when he comes online.

It's the results of CPU-Z, HWMonitor, and Event Viewer. Reliability Monitor is not found on my PC, and I couldn't find it to add from "Turn Windows features on or off" in the Control Panel. (It's there; I must've mistyped it).

I didn't run the BSOD PowerShell scripts (yet) because I think the problem might be my PC's TPM chip, according to the Event Viewer item shot in the zip file? It says for "TMP-WMI":

"Pre-attestation health checks confirm a critical component has failed, and the device is not expected to pass attestation.
Please see C:\WINDOWS\Logs\MeasuredBoot\0000000078-0000000000.json for detailed information on what checks were made."

I included that log file for you to see.

There are no WHEA errors shown at the very bottom of the Sensors list in the HWiNFO app.

Open admin powershell or admin command prompt and put this in then press enter.

I noticed in the BIOS that XMP wasn't enabled for RAM, and I googled it and one result said that disabling XMP can cause issues and that it's best to enable it, so I did.

Also did the PerfMon thing and got this:

So this very event will also show if a person uses

Ctrl + Shift + Windows + B​

which will cause the beep when the GPU drivers reset.

Can you screenshot your Event Viewer Errors?

XMP = overclocking your RAM based on the advertised OC speed.

I would like to have you run a Clean Boot.

How to perform a Clean Boot.

Warning: Disabling items in Services or Startup may leave your antivirus disabled until the process is ended. For this reason I would suggest that you perform this process off line.

Press the keys to open Run, then type msconfig in the search box. This will open System Configuration.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.

(1) Click/tap on the General tab.

(2) Click/tap on the Selective startup option.

(3) Remove the check mark in the Load startup items check box.



4. Click on the Services tab.

5. Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services from the list but will still be running.

6. Click Disable all, this will remove all of the check marks in the Services list.



7. Click on Apply then OK



Click on Restart in the window that opens.

When the computer is restarted it will boot normally.

If the problem does not continue after the restart please do the following.

8. Divide the number of these startup services and programs by two and you place checks in the first half of these, then restart the computer.

9. If the problem doesn't return in those services and programs remove the checks and place checks in the remaining services and programs and restart the computer.

10. When you find which half the service or program is in go on to the next step.

11. The half which has the service causing this problem remove half of the checks as you did previously to see which half has this service. Do the same for the programs. Restart the computer.

12. If it isn't in the first half of these services and programs, do the same with the last half of the services and programs.

13. Once you have narrowed it down to the last three or four services and programs remove the checks one at a time till you find the service or program at fault.

Once you have found the service or program post it in your topic. Do not take any action until I suggest the next step.

In the Search box,type in ---reliability---which will give you Reliability History ----and look for red-flagged entries.
If Reliability History is not presented then you have a serious malfunction with Win 11 and the first action to take is in Terminal [admin ] type in and run---dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ---when completed then type in ---sfc /scannow ---and continue to run it until a clean report is given.

There was no V2 seen (post #4) in the share link..

Reliability Monitor showed some errors. The DISM and SFC combo found some corrupted files but repaired them. The improper shutdowns were me forcibly shutting down the PC due to the lockups. Haven't done the Services checks yet in case the SFC repair did the job.

Like I've stated in other board, this kind of problem appear to be the health of your hub or computer.

In Reliability History,select the Critical Events line,then RIGHT click it and then select the ---View tech ---box which gives the Report Sent page.
The first few lines should identify the problem cause.
You mentioned ---some errors ---perhaps "humungous" is more appropriate! !

I looked at it. Secure Boot disabled: The secure boot feature is disabled in the BIOS, which automatically reduces the level of trust in the system.

+ The motherboard PRIME H610M-A WIFI D4 BIOS is two years out of date.

Can you click on both Application Hang and Application Error, as well as Kernel-Event tracing and post those images here? You can alternatively copy the text from each "Event" in Event Viewer and paste it.

I ended up doing a clean reinstall of Win 11, and the locking up hasn't occurred since.
