Solved In-place Upgrade test Failure

And we have a BSoD. Currently using system restore to recover.

I honestly don't know. As I said... we're in uncharted waters here.
There could be something in the way an In-Place upgrade "functions" that we don't understand, so we can't make allowances for.

See my edits above.

For all we know... you may be the very first person to try an In-Place upgrade on a non-compatible machine.

1) Please upload a new V2.

2) Post images / share links for https://aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp

3) Uninstall all printers.

4) Uninstall EaseUS software.

5) Restart WDV with the same customized settings.



Whenever possible to recover from using WDV run in order:
a) verifier /reset
b) verifier /bootmode resetonbootfail
c) system restore

Running system restore sometimes causes the loss of the dump file.

Only the CPU is not compatible.

The V2 only collected a few files compared to what it normally collects.

There were no dump files.

Please restart WDV with the same customized settings after uninstalling EaseUS software.

If there is no immediate BSOD then run verifier /querysettings

There was a BSoD After uninstalling EaseUS & the printer drivers.
I couldn’t use cmd to recover using the verifier cmds.
I have decided to roll back to Windows 10.

When you rollback to Windows 10 consider the options that Ghot made earlier in the thread.

In place upgrade repair 10 to 10 followed by delete appraisers with 10 to 11 in place upgrade in clean boot without updates.

(also uninstall printer software, intel driver and support assistant, EaseUS software)

I may try again in the near future.
Do I delete the appraisers from the installation media or from the PC during install or both?

Bree has done the appraisers method and may comment.

Thanks @zbook, I already tried that but with USB installation media & it just left me with a black screen during one of the restarts. I had to force shutdown & on starting it rolled back Windows. I don’t know if using the .iso would be any different though.

It's trial and error.
With backup images you may be able to find a method.
The computer has Nvidia Optimus so using only Nvidia GPU or Intel GPU are additional trial and error options.

This may simplify things:

a) Make sure you're happy with a backup image
b) Clean install Windows 10
c) Upgrade Windows 10 to 11 using appraisers
d) Perform an in place upgrade repair windows 11 to windows 11

If the above fail then you've completed the testing.
If the above work then you've got to troubleshoot the imaged operating system/registry/installed software

Update:
Eureka.
I decided to see if there were any Printer driver updates from Canon & there were. I also uninstalled the Intel Driver & support assistant & after this I tried again, Win 11 install went smoothly & also the in-place repair completed fine. Reinstalled Intel support assistant & in-place repair failed again. I rolled back to the successful repair & tried again & the repair worked.
Seems the Intel program was the cause of all the problems.

Glad to read the success.

It was thanks to yours & others’ help which pointed me towards the potential solution. Mentioning printer drivers & Intel’s driver update software got me thinking that it’s been some time since I checked for newer printer drivers & Canon had ones for Win 11. Uninstalling the Intel software was to rule that out as well.
Can’t understand why Intel’s updater is the culprit though. It least I can download the Intel drivers direct.

WinSetupMon.sys doesn't seem to be able to access or read from the .bak file for some reason. I'm not sure why.

I'm glad everything appears to be working with no problems now.

OBSS, and PowerDVD have been implicated too, it seems to be anything that has an onboot driver or autostart service can trigger this error in the OOBE setup stage.

It's an installer flaw, and its not even new to 11
