Install Now, or Wait? (W11 25H2 ISO)

Windows 11 Version 25H2
Hi guys. My laptop is currently on Windows 11, Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.6584). Earlier today, I read an article online that said the ISO for Version 25H2 is now available, but also stated that nothing much has changed, if anything except for Version number (?). My question is, should I go ahead and install 25H2 now, or wait until my Windows Update pushes it out normally? Any reason to install now, or any reason to wait? Thoughts and help appreciated :)

ISO for Version 25H2 isn't available.
Use the insider version if you don't care to be a insider tester. Your computer may be unstable, have BSOD and fail. If you want to be a tester, go ahead.
If you need the computer to work, wait some months after the 25H2 release to install.

It's available from Microsoft, but only for insiders. Download Windows Insider Preview ISO

It can be had by anyone from uupdump.net.

RP builds are infamous for making your PC explode in a shower of sparks. ;-)

Hi again guys. I am still on the fence about if I should update to 25H2 now, or wait till it is normally pushed to my Windows Update. Is it true that it might be released to general public in October? I am not currently an "insider", and my OS is still Windows 11, Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.6584). I primarily use my laptop for gaming, and I don't have any other computers. Further thoughts and help appreciated :)

As discussed many times, we do not know when the official version will be released but historically 2XH2 releases are normally released in October some time but have been know to be released later if serious bugs are detected at a late stage.

So true: probably but we cannot categorically state that.

TBH, 25H2 is not exciting enough to manually update prematurely. I tried it and had a couple of issues and reverted back to 24H2 (restoring a Macrium Reflect Backup). My advice is to simply wait.

Supposedly, 25H2 will be upgradable as an "enablement package (similar to 22H2 - > 23H2 Upgrade) - so the codebase remains the same (not much different than 24H2). No point in a clean install - since there's very small risks for upgrade issues. It's more like a monthly update - than a major feature pack update.

Wait. It's your main computer. The state it is in right now is for testing not for general use.

Always wait for windows update and I would wait a few weeks or so for it to be pushed to your device normally prompting you to update instead of rushing to do it.

The earliest a new version of Windows 11 was released was 20th September for 22H2, the latests was 31st October for 23H2. The most recent was 24H2 on 1st October.
Windows 11 - release information

So yes, it could be any time between now and the end of October. My advice would be to wait for it to be released.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

No 'supposedly' about it. It's officially going to be an enablement package.

Microsoft said:
This process is called "feature updates via servicing," and the updates are implemented through enablement packages (eKB). An eKB is an update package that helps update a device to the next version of Windows with a single restart that reduces downtime....

....Windows 11, version 24H2 and version 25H2 use a shared servicing branch.....

The code remains disabled on the device until it receives the eKB. The eKB changes flags in the staged code from Disabled to Enabled. When you restart the device, the new features become enabled, and you're officially on Windows 11, version 25H2!

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
