Install Window 11 in S mode (or Windows 10)


You can also deploy the install.wim using Dism or GimageX tool, then use the appropriate parameters in bcdboot and bcdedit commands to make the disk bootable and enable Windows-to-Go mode. I don't have the details handy, but you can Google it. I have done it successfully for Windows 10, haven't done it for Windows 11, but it shouldn't be much different.

I'm very curious as to how this relates to installing Windows 11 in S Mode?

I replied to the previous poster that said you need Windows 11 Enterprise to create a Windows-to-Go installation. No you don't, there are workarounds. You can extract Windows from install.wim with either Dism or GimageX and then make it bootable and Windows-to-Go compliant (boot from USB). I have done it using Windows 10 Pro. The same tools can also be used in Windows 10/11 Home.

This is how I installed Windows 11 in SE mode so its not actually on or interfering w/ other PC OSs.
Edit: OOps I was thinking S mode was SE mode, sorry

I am very sad because I followed all the steps carefully but during installation on "get ready" I got unattend error dialog.

How did you guys install it in VM any guide?
