Install

Ya, 12GB of memory is an odd amount to install.
And go with the 512GB SSD :)
Get the best you can afford.

AddRAM's right about that being an odd sum total of RAM. I think maybe Dell is the only system builder I've ever seen that offers odd, unmatched, non-paired RAM.

You might do best to take the 8, then add another 8 yourself, assuming you can get an 8GB stick from Dell to match the installed 8 stick.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Dell offers exactly what you want, though I agree completely with bobkn that 16 beats 12, 'cuz you get dual-channel with 16, but not with 12.

How on earth did you find that?? How would I get it with 16GB memory then?
Just so I can compare cost. If not too much more, I may get it. Otherwise this one will be it.
How can I ever thank you?? I am not familiar with the Dell website in ordering a Dell computer so do not know how or where you got that?
I will poke around to see if I can get that with the 16GB if that is a lot better to have. THANKS!!

EDIT:
I just happened to think, that PC is preinstalled Windows 10 Pro with a Windows 11 Pro License included, allowing to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro when ready.
I would have to set it up when it comes as Windows 10 pro, but I read where windows 10 can't be set up to work without having a Microsoft account, just like Windows 11.
The windows 11 Pro, CAN be set up without a Microsoft account.
That is why I wanted a Windows 11 Pro already to go, but can NOT find one.
This Dell comes as Windows 10 Pro with license to upgrade when ready, so that defeats the purpose?

I just clicked the See all configs, then checked 12GB memory in the table at the top.

They appear only to offer it with either 8 or 12, so I'm suggesting that you take it with 8, and then add another 8 yourself. It's a big case, so it's easy to stick a memory stick into a slot. Just note: if there are four memory slots, you need to use the 2nd (from the CPU) and the 4th for two sticks, not the 1st and 2nd.

Just click the link I gave you (you repeated it in #23 above) scroll up and down the page until you're satisfied that you've got what you want, and hit the big green button that says Add to cart $769. You'll find they make it easy to give them your money.

Come back with any questions. Otherwise, good luck! Oh, and click the Like hand icon (bottom right of a post that's NOT yours) in one of my posts or one of AddRAM's posts to give credit for helping you find a solution. We'll appreciate it.

A stupid question for "marne", if I may be permitted:

Not stupid at all.
I do have a Dell 27" monitor I purchased for the desktop I am using now which is Windows 7.
I hate to part with Windows 7 but you know there comes a time when it is a have to.

I surely will reread all these replies over and over when I relax for all to sink in.
Thanks about the clicking of the hand. I shall take note of that to be sure I do.
I appreciate ALL the replies here and wish I would have found this forum a month ago instead of Googling desktop windows 11 hoping to find one to order.

I refer to a question as "stupid" when it's about what (I hope) is obvious.

By the way, HP sells desktops with 11 pre-installed.

https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/mdp/towers-349501--1/envy-desktop-349509--1#!

Click on the orange "view options" buttons on the upper left of the screen that appears. HP appears to allow the Envy line to be configurable.

I see some things there that I don't care for, like charging $100 to go from 8GB of RAM to 16GB. The retail value of an 8GB DDR4 2666 DIMM is $30-40US. Ripoff. Who do they think they are, Apple?:) The SSD upgrades (say, from 256GB to 512GB) aren't as overpriced.

I'm a little surprised that the makers offer 1 or 2 TB hard drives (I call 'em spinners) as add-in secondary drives. Seems small. Maybe they get a good deal on them for that reason.

Thank you Mr. bobkn, but I am not a fan of HP. Took a peek, but not my "cup of T" so to speak. (smiles)
After a good nights sleep, I am going to see about ordering a Dell tomorrow.
I just hope Dell is a good product.
Right now I am using an Acer which has been great, but nothing out on windows 11 desktops that I came across but heard the people who have Dell likes them.

I would get the Dell with 8 GB of memory. See how it performs. If you are happy with it, there you go. If you think you need 16GB, then add another 8 GB stick of RAM to it.

    Fast!
I think maybe Dell is the only system builder I've ever seen that offers odd, unmatched, non-paired RAM.
HP and ACER do it as well. I agree odd number, Might be a way to get rid of the overstock of 4 gig sticks.
Sometimes 4 gigs is soldered on to the MB so they just add an 8 gig stick to the computer.
This mostly affects laptops and AIO's though.
Do the research and see if the computer has a soldered-on ram at all times.

GREAT advice here well taken. I shall go with the 8GB and can add more to make 16GB if would be a benefit to do so?
What actually does 16GB do compared to 8GB? Does it make the computer open programs faster?
Now THAT may be a "Stupid" question, but I really do not understand a lot about "Computery?"
I suppose I have to open a Dell account to have, to benefit in ordering?

EDIT: This may have answered my question?

Well, when you get it, if you are ready, there's a few ways to get 11 on there even before windows update offers it. All legit too, nothing "unsupported".
Windows 11 Installation Assistant (this is how i went from 10 to 11 on my desktop)
Create Windows 11 Installation Media
Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) (English x64 linked)

The installation assistant took me right about an hour (a little under i think) to go from 10 Pro to 11 Pro. Surprisingly quick and painless for a Microsoft adventure :lmao:

tomdsr,
I'd have to be a computer guru to do all that, which I am far from being. Thank you anyway.

The installation assistant was 3 or 4 mouse clicks.

Click 1 to run it.
Click 2 to accept the agreement.
Click 3 to choose upgrade (i did NOT wanna do a clean install and reinstall everything ugh lol)
Click 4 was to reboot after it downloaded and installed.

When it rebooted, hello 11. Easy peasy lemon squeezy
