Solved Installing windows 10 on a win 11 pre installed laptop

After posting here and waiting for the answer I also directly asked from Microsoft support. They confirmed that I can install windows 10 using the same license and can easily upgrade back to win 11 in the future whenever I want.
Thanks for checking it out and letting us know!

I agree about the folder thumbnails, but you soon get to live with it. Nothing wrong with a few hacks and tweaks. Win 11 is defo better in ways that are not so obvious, not just what you see. Maybe try 10 forums :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Not a big deal. Just reinstall Skype, login and you are good to go. I don't use the modern Skype app, I downloaded the latest desktop version (traditional Skype) and it works as expected in 11.

I just bought a laptop with windows11pro preinstalled by the manufacture(digital license). I don't like windows 11 at all and want to install windows 10 on this laptop. My question is if I clean install windows 10 (delete recovery drives etc and complete format SSD) will I be able to upgrade to Windows 11 in the future with the same license? And do I need to buy a separate license for windows 10 or will my windows 11 license will just magically work with windows 10?

Edit:
After posting here and waiting for the answer I also directly asked from Microsoft support. They confirmed that I can install windows 10 using the same license and can easily upgrade back to win 11 in the future whenever I want.

Edit 2:
I finally installed Windows 10 today and it got automatically activated with windows 11 license. without any issue.
For me the learning curve for 11 was very short - just about an hour. Give it a little time. It isn't that different and you won't have to worry about the Windows 10 end of life in a few years.

There is no such thing as a Win 11 licence.. from a licencing perspective it's Win 10 - no matter what it says on the tin.

I would create a full disk backup or clone to a spare disk with Macrium or other utility, so anytime I would like to go back to Windows 11, I could just restore the backup. Then I would delete all partitions to gain valuable space before proceeding to install Windows 10. Normally the key is stored at the UEFI firmware (BIOS), so Windows Setup will detect it and use it automatically. If you want to see it and take a note before formatting the disk you can use the ShowKeyPlus tool.
It is harder than it looks to do a backup of Win 11 S with tools like Macrium Reflect (or any 3rd party tool), as you cannot install them on S versions.

You can try booting with a Rescue drive created on another PC, and backing up in WinPE mode, but there is no guarantee it will work e.g. if missing oem drivers.

Worse, you cannot export the oem drivers in S mode as you cannot run admin powershell commands.

Interestingly, the Windows built in backup tool does work in S mode, so that is an option albeit not one we normally recommend. I would do this on W11 S so there is an ultimate fallback position.

Then I would upgrade to W11 Home using MS Store App which is a simple exercise, and will not affect installed drivers.
At this point, you can install Macrium Reflect or similar and make an image backup, and export oem drivers.

Then it is safe to clean install Windows 10 Home, as user will have the oem drivers backed up, and at least one image backup.
This assumes oem drivers will work on Windows 10 as well (if not, that is a good reason for creating W11 Home first, and image backup).

EDIT - well it seems OP managed to install W10 with no issues (good news), but I will leave this message for information, as there is no absolute guarantee it will work for other users.

Windows 10 Home S can be upgraded to standard Windows 10 Home for free, unlocking all features. I would upgrade Windows 10 Home S to Home and then to Windows 11 Home. Why use a limited version of Windows when you can have the unlocked version for free? Security is a bull$hit excuse as any viruses can bypass the restrictions and get installed anyway. I believe that a Windows 10 Home S license is cheaper than a regular Windows 10 Home license, so manufacturers usually bundle that with the less expensive models. Thankfully it can be upgraded to the full unrestricted Windows 10 Home for free.

Windows S mode the applications can only be installed from the store. Windows S mode was introduced for devices in the Chromebooks price range to compete against Chromebooks.

Upgrading my wife's laptop from Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Home was one of the first things I did. I also found out the MS still has the 10-device limit. I had to remove old devices I no longer have so I could do the upgrade. I updated the laptop to Windows 11 the day before it was officially released, and I still haven't heard any complaints.
