Solved Intermittent Inability to Connect to Websites

Have been seeing problems connecting to various websites. It comes and goes. Can fix temporarily by restarting, but that can be awkward.

Not all sites will fail at same time.
Do not see this problem on my iPad.
Sometimes the problem fixes itself; sites stop connecting, then later will connect, and repeat. The disconnect will vary from minutes to hours.
Have tried the various ipconfig flushing, etc.; does not help.
Problem occurs with Edge as well as Chrome.
Problem began last couple of weeks. Last Windows 11 update was August 13th.
My local connection (tested via Speedtest) is solid.

The errors I see are usually:
“Page could not be loaded”
“www.___.com took too long to respond.”

I did all the below and restarted.
ipconfig /flushdns (Clear the dns cache)
nbtstat -RR (release and refresh NetBIOS names)
netsh int ip reset (reset ip settings)
netsh winsock reset (Reset Winsock Catalog)
netsh interface ip delete arpcache (reset Address Resolution Protocol cache)
netsh advfirewall reset

None of those helped.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Try these...

ipconfig /release

And then...

Ipconfig /renew

If you still have the issue, call your ISP and have them do a line test.
It sounds like the router or modem or ISP is causing the issue.

Oh... here's ten points for filling out your computer specs.

I have done the above commands, but the problem persists. I didn't think it was a issue with my ISP because my iPad does not have this problem and uses the same router and ISP in Wi-Fi mode.

Things you should do:

Try to go to your router configuration page.
- Double check your IP assignments for your machine making sure that your wifi IP differs from the ethernet one.
- Assign a static IP to your wifi PC

On your PC:
- Disable your wired adapter if you don't intend to use it.

On your router:
- Reboot your router once done with the above.

Thanks. I have now disconnected the ethernet (wired) adapter in Settings per your suggestion. I do not have access to the router, as it is
installed by the building Wi-Fi provider. Also, have not thought the router is a problem since those site connect ok on my iPad which uses the same router. Don't know how to obtain a static ip for the PC's Wi-Fi. Will see how things go.

This is still a problem. I have changed the Wi-Fi DNS servers to 1.1.1.1 but still have these interruptions. What I have been doing lately is to turn off the Wi-Fi, then turn it back on; this seems to re-establish the connections. But it is a distinct pain...

Have not spoken to neighbors. The reason is that I have an iPad which uses the same Wi-Fi connection and does not display these connection problems. I can be having a problem with a site not connecting on my Windows 11 desktop and have the exact same website open on the iPad with no problems. This, seems to me, to point to a problem within the Windows 11 desktop.

have you tried setting the connection on your system to static addressing
settings > network and internet > your connection WiFi or Ethernet

then set the
ip address
sub netmask
gateway address

DNS addressing
1.1.1.1
1.0.0.1

a restart maybe required
then check the connection for any improvement

Thank you, and yes I did change to static addressing 1.1.1.1, etc. But the problem persists. Works fine for a while after a restart, but stops connecting after an hour or so.

I have had to change the wifi card on two laptops and it was very easy. They are not expensive generally. You may have a failing card.

please check in the device manager the network adaptors/hardware list
on each entry right click then properties
and check the power management settings and ensure
'let the system turn this device off to save power' is unticked

as @kelper has stated it may also be a failing network card.

Thanks for this. However, The network adapter properties does not have a power management setting tab, i.e. no 'let the system turn this device off to save power' box to untick. (Possibly because this is a desktop and not a laptop?)

I think (hope) this problem has been resolved. I asked Copilot this question: "I am having to reset my network adapter Realtek RTL8852BE WiFi 6 802.11ax PCIe Adapter several time per day. I do it by turning my wi-fi off and back on. What might be wrong with the adapter?"
Among its suggestions was this: "Go to Device Manager → RTL8852BE → Advanced tab. Set “Roaming Aggressiveness” to Lowest to reduce unnecessary disconnects."
I disabled that "Roaming Aggressiveness" about ten days ago and no disconnects since. Possible rationale: This desktop sits in the same place and accesses the same AP all the time, so there is no roaming or multiple AP's to switch to. Possibly it was getting confused about AP's in other apartments. I have marked this thread as solved.
