I know. Mine is the XPA-2 Gen1, it's the same as the one in the review article. I bought it new (factory direct) at the time when they hadn't released their XPA Gen2 lineup yet.
The Gen2 and Gen3 both use a very different electronics design. They use a switching power supply (SPS), and they are modular whereas the XPA-2 Gen1 is a true Class AB amp with a triple Darlington circuit type. Note to self, always remember to bend your knees.

Some of us prefer to get PSUs with a single +12V rail.
Why?

It is more flexible. You don't need to worry about whether you are tapping out a rail so don't have to worry about which rail to place something. You also don't waste available power. There are also disadvantages though.

It may not happen much anymore, but a few years ago, there were issues with cabling that overloaded one of the rails. (Typically, having both the CPU and GPU on the same rail.) With a single rail, there's no need to worry about what devices are connected to which rail.

I recently spec'd out a new build using Microcenter's pick-a-part app. Total build was 554w and the rec was a 650w PSU which put it at about 85% capacity. I'm a little wary of that and am going to go with a Corsair Gold @ 850w which is 65% of cap. A 750w would be 74%. The price between the 750w and the 850W is only $20 so 850W it is just to be on the safe side for the future.
