Solved Is It Possible To Remove "Try The New Outlook' Slider Button In The Mail App ?

I'm thinking there might possibly be some kind of a registry edit for removing the try the new outlook slider button located up in the upper right hand corner of the screen in the original mail & calendar app. I really feel like it might be possible to do so.

Hope your doing well.

Yes it is possible to remove it. So first of all, open regedit, and navigate using the toolbar to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General. Be ware, on the left pane if you don't have "General" folder, under "Advanced" you will be required to make one.

Once here, right click empty space in regedit and create a new DWORD (32 bit value) named HideNewOutlookToggle. Double click this new key created, and under Value data, change 0 to 1. Restart your PC, or Mail, I'm unsure which you will need to do, and you should no longer have it.

This will not do a thing in this case as David is not using Outlook, he is using MS Mail, as his screenshot and thread title reflect.

Hi,
At this point in time I feel like I'm still going to try the registry edit and see if by chance it actually works, like user OAT pointed out and upon checking in the registry currently there aren't any keys listed like the ones in user james reply.

Yes, you would have to have 365 or MS Office 16+ to have those reg keys present.

My answer:
There isn't a way of getting rid of it that I can see; and I'm very sorry about that. You could carry on using it of course, upgrade to the new outlook by flicking the switch, or use a third party option like Thunderbird. I'm currently in the process of upgrading to the new outlook, so I will let you know what it is like.

I've sh*tcanned "New Outlook" on both my personal and work machines. For work, it dumbs things down too much for the sake of having a pretty, browser-like app. I'll be very sad if they deprecate the current Outlook client.

For my personal machine, I use Gmail for my primary email address and the New Outlook client configures that very nicely, but does NOT synchronize well with the Gmail servers at all. And yes, I've very carefully checked my Gmail IMAP settings thankyouverramuch.

I am not sure how much you want to experiment but Mail being a metro app, its settings are found here, and not in the reg:
%LocalAppData%\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
I am not sure if there is anything usable there though.

It's worth saying that the current Thunderbird mail client works absolutely perfectly with GMail, synchronizing bi-directionally and logging in to the GMail Web interface as quickly as it's possible to do so (about 10-12 seconds for me). The moment I delete a message in TBird, it shows up in GMail's Trash folder ("label" in GMail-speak), and the moment I empty the Trash in TBird, it's empty in GMail. All of my TBird folders work, and all of my GMail labels work, but I have the privilege of setting up as many Local (offline) Folders as I wish in TBird, and GMail happily ignores those. I know that GMail permanently deletes anything that has been in the Trash label for 30 days+, so it's foolish to store "keepers" in the Trash folder, and the Local Folders panel has room for Archives (I use it for long-term keepers) and Keep Temp (I use it for To Do mail, and keep the Inbox free of storage) folders, and as many others as you need, and GMail can't access those.

I did try TBird for about a week and it worked well, once I figured out how to configure the Gmail add-ins. That being said, I just did not care much for the TBird interface. Dunno why, but I felt very uncomfortable with it. Gmail's browser interface still seems to work best IMHO....

Sorry we took your thread completely off topic. I think @James in #7 above is right. I've looked everywhere for a cure for that slider in the Mail app, and I can't find one. I had decided to leave Mail for Thunderbird before the slider appeared, so that wasn't a factor in my abandoning it, but I really resented that slider, too. I've finally uninstalled "Mail and Calendar" from Windows 11 Pro 22H2 1778 on my two office machines, and I'm happier without it and its many quirks and shortcomings. My impression from the Web is that Mail has been a disappointment to many users, and I think that's why MS is trying to jack Mail up and run a copy of "New Outlook" under the frame. Mail will be deprecated if MS has its way.

In Mail App go to Settings cog > Trust Center > relevent content > OFF.

Then Windows 10/11 Settings > Privacy & Security > Change relevent privacy options.

The Setting must also be on one of those OOBE screens for Windows 11, as it has never appeared here on the Mail App.

I have been using the Mail App for 10 years thru Windows 8.1/10/11 and never seen such a slider top right. One of the Email Accounts setup is Gmail no problems with that either.

Yes, I've had Gmail working fine with the "old" Mail app; just never cared much for that app.... It's the "New Outlook" that has serious synching problems.
