Is it possible to revert to the last version of Windows 11 easily? I am having trouble with the latest Canary build constantly rebooting itself every 2 minutes or so. Very annoying and I cannot get any work done like this. I had to compose this message on a Windows 10 machine since I could not on the rebooting Windows 11 one.

Unless you've imaged the release version then it's a clean install from scratch I'm afraid

As long as you haven't cleaned up and deleted windows.old yet, then you should still be able to go back to your previous Canary build. See Settings > System > Recovery > Go back.

You can also uninstall the latest feature update from Advanced Startup, which may be the safer option given your frequent reboots.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

Oh, good. I run the canary build on a test laptop and, today, I did a fresh install using the 25905 ISO. It's good so far (other than the File Explorer bugs that that are still in all Windows 11 releases). Maybe that could work for you?

The 25905.1000 OS Build is where my problems first started, so no I won't be installing that version.

Upgraded to, versus fresh install of, can make a difference. I had issues before doing the fresh install, but nothing as bad as constant reboots. I just don't see any point in running the canary build if you can't run the latest, but whatever works for you. 🙂

Upgraded to Build 25905 last night. The constant reboots have persisted even after that installation UNLESS I have a window of something open, like a browser for instance. Then it is rock solid. Go figure.

{EDIT} It is not rock solid. It only delays the reboot.

{Another EDIT} It has changed its behavior today. If I have a Browser and File Explorer running even when minimized, the Build 25905 machine stays up and running with no reboots. I say this after watching it for the past 4 hours (NO reboots).

Weird stuff can happen when living on the edge. I have Windows 11 on 3 different partitions on a test laptop (Release, Dev, and Canary). All of them have been rebuilt from scratch recently. All three are stable, but the Canary build is stuck at full brightness. So, my point being that you may want to go with the Dev or Release build instead of Canary.

Good advice. I already have started setting up another partition on my machine and installed the Canary build. BUT I am rethinking that Canary build decision and now will likely go with the Developer build. Thanks for the idea!

Good advice. I already have started setting up another partition on my machine and installed the Canary build. BUT I am rethinking that Canary build decision and now will likely go with the Developer build. Thanks for the idea!

I went with the Developer Option on the Windows 11 installation. All is going well as I continue to build the machine with my preferred software.
