Is there a way to make files in File Explorer appear bigger?


I got first glasses at 12, went into bi-focals when I was 19, and tri-focals at around 30. Still wear them and still wear the lined ones. I never notice the lines. Last thing I do at night is take them off and first thing in the morning is to put them on. I'm blind as a bat without them, especially at reading level. Honest truth, I've always been near sighted in one eye, far sighted in the other, and have astigmatism. Now, I need cataract surgery. I've never known normal eyes.
But I'm still so blessed that I lived a seeing life. So many do not.

I have varifocal glasses. I found them quite easy to adapt to. I just need the one pair which I wear all day, whether I'm reading, on the computer, or driving.

But in the mean time, you may find the built-in Windows Magnifier useful. Use WinKey plus + to open it. Try the 'Lens' view...

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

In first grade the teacher wrote the ABC's on the blackboard and I raised my hand and told her I couldn't see them. She had me get up from my seat and walk toward the board until I could see them. I walked up to a couple of feet from the board. She sent me home with a note to take me to an eye doctor. I vividly remember walking outside with my new eyeglasses and being astounded that I could actually see individual leaves on the trees. I too have been extremely near sighted my whole life.

I too am blind as a bat without my multifocal progressive contact lenses or my progressive eyeglasses. There's no way I could use my computer without them. My eye doctor tells me that I'm now at the point where I too need cataract surgery.

As you age the eye muscles tend to get weaker and you get progressively longer sighted. I started out slightly long sighted, and by the time I was in my 30's started to need glasses to read. Now I'm so long sighted I need them to see anything, near or far. I'm lucky though, no cataracts (yet) and with my glasses on I have 20/20 vision.

Out of the subject, but since we're talking about glasses, I want to ask whether multifocal progressive eyeglasses are worth it, or if I should keep switching between 3 pairs of glasses?

It varies between individuals.
I can't stand varifocals [which is what I think you mean by 'multifocal progressive'] because I ended up nodding for several seconds as I worked out which angle worked best for whatever distance was involved at any given moment.

Yes, it varies between individuals. I have both progressive multifocal contact lenses and varifocal glasses. The contact lenses are like having the eyes I had when young. I love them.

When using my multifocal eyeglasses, moving my head a bit to find the sharpest position has become completely automatic over the years. For me that totally beats carrying three pairs of glasses and switching between them.

Some prefer using bifocal or trifocal glasses. Have you tried that route?

I wouldn't be without mine. I took to them very easily. The exact positioning of the three areas of magnification has to be tailored to the individual by an optician. Get that right and you shouldn't have the issues Denis reports.

One side effect of having the progressive magnifications is that verticals in your peripheral vision look curved. If you look directly they are straight, but if you glance sideways at them they appear curved. Some can find that disturbing, I don't.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. Yes the optician told me that the area on the bottom left and bottom right are blur areas

I've worn contact lenses for many decades, so for me it's easy and automatic.

Mine varied continually across their height. That's why I had to keep nodding as I zeroed in on a head angle that worked for any given momentary situation. And that is why I use three pairs of fixed-focus specs instead.
