With all the recent developments surrounding issues with TPM/Windows Hello, I decided to disable pin login and rely strictly on my Microsoft password. What I can't figure out is how to PERMANENTLY disable the Windows nag that comes up at every boot to make a pin. I know Pro users can make a change in Group Policy but it will not stick for me for very long before the nag is back. Not sure if it's because of a windows update or there's some kind of counter that makes it come back after a certain number of logins using a password. Home users don't even have the option of using group policy. There's got to be a way to permanently, forever, always, disable this aggravating nag screen.

Just wondering. If you are already using MS account, why do not you want to make your account more secure? If anyone steals your PIN, he will not be able use it. It is like making photo of your pocket, while keeping your keys perfectly safe.

2 reasons for pin first MS is pushing it as it doesnt connect to the internet so more secure second if your interent goes down or on another network and you can verify MS login then a pin will get you in or fingerpint

I can only quote from experience om Weds gone I got a new Dell AIO with win 10 home. Performed a fresh install from boot with secure boot etc turned off and internet connected.
I now have windows 11 pro on a local a count and the computer boots direct from the Dell logo on the bios screen straight into the desktop in 5 seconds.
No logon and no PIN anywhere and no login screen on and no lock scree either and a pukka copy of windows 11 pro too and digital license.

@paulhatton Thanks but I know how to do that. I'm interested in stopping the constant windows nag screen one gets when one chooses to NOT use a pin but still wants to use a MS account. Local Group Policy changes it for a short time, but Windows changes it back either thru a counter or update.

Dunno if this might help...

I'm on Win 11 Home, with no MS account and I get no PIN nag, and in that registry location I see: value = 1

As do I. I hope @Edwin is on to something here. I think with Windows 11, that is the default option (ON) because they're pushing using a pin so hard to everyone using a MS account. The fact that you're using a local account is what's keeping you from ever getting the pin nag. (pin is not available for local account) I will give this a shot. If the nag comes back, I'll ditch my MS Account on this PC. I'll let y'all know in a day or two if it worked.

I assumed that having a local account was preventing the PIN nag, but I just figured this would give @Edwin some more info. And I was just curious to see what mine was set at. :)

Good to hear! (((HUGS)))

Just curious..., did the tweak automatically disable Windows Hello, or did you have to do that manually as well?

I manually disabled pin. There's only one caveat to this but it doesn't bother me and I can live with it. The sign in screen now looks like below. But when I enter my password, it goes straight into windows rather than to the set up pin screen. I verified that I can now use netplwiz and login automatically if I want to. Also in settings most things are now grayed out. I know how to revert everything back if need be.

If a pin makes my PC more secure than a long password, why would I want to use a password?
