Solved Is this true that Gmail will be no longer in existence from this august

People who perpetuate this myth do a great disservice to the very brave heroes who risked their lives long before the modern keyboard warrior dickheads even existed.

Neil, Buzz, Michael - you opened up the imagination of many young engineers and scientists. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
That's true. It was like the very early days of flight. Very much manual seat of the pants flying, not press a button and let the computers take over the rest. And when I learnt that the computing power of the onboard computer had less memory than a Commodore Vic20 in the late 60's it was one hell of an achievement that we ever got there (and returned) safety in one piece. Very brave men.

Impossible. Gmail is the most popular email client for Windows and Android. Apple has the highest Market share cause of iPhone (kinda like Internet Explorer - having the biggest market share in the old days - cause that's what came integrated with Windows) - but Gmail was actually chosen.

Top Gmail Statistics (2024 Data)

  • Gmail has over 1.8 million users worldwide as of 2024.

  • Gmail owns 28.78% of the Email Client market share worldwide.

  • More than 121 billion emails are sent every day through Gmail.

  • Users spend an average of 28 minutes on Gmail daily.

  • A user has an average of 1.7 Gmail accounts.

  • 90% of startups and over 60% of mid-sized companies in the United States use Gmail.

  • Gmail usage is highest in Indonesia and India, as 4 in 5 email users prefer Gmail.

  • 75% of the Gmail user acces the application through their smartphones.

  • Gmail has an email open rate of 75%.

Google renouncing Gmail is like a news where Samsung quits the mobile and storage industry in August. You don't have to check any source to know that's not gonna happen - cause it's one the stupidest hoax (makes no sense whatsoever).

Yeah, i think that's what they meant as well (it's copy pasted from one of the top stats pages on google - apparently they made a typo - check above link). They did mention "More than 1.8 billion" in the Bio.

I think also in Europe the BBC Micro was brilliant too -- it actually was a RISC processor (probably these days called an ARM type processor). You had to build it from the kit and programming lessons were given -- a very popular model back then. You even had direct machine code / direct memory and interrupt programming and it did have a basic Interpreter.

Mind you some modern day kids have zero knowledge of electrical engineering -- I saw on a TV program (and it actually wasn't Lord Sugar's BBC The Apprentice) where a young kid was asked what does the armature do in an electric motor (I think the program was about electric cars) -- and this kid could only say "How do you actually fit an armchair into an electric motor".

Cheers

I had a BBC and did not need to build it from a kit, but you're right it did have a RISC chip as Acorn Risc Machines went on to make the Archimedes range of computer. It had a 8 bit 6512 Processor running at 2MHz with 32Kb of RAM!! As an aside can we get this thread locked or deleted as the original content has been massively debunked not least by Google themselves who said the original post that started all this was a doctored email from years ago saying something completely different.

    …still on a horse.
As much as I loathe and abhor the terminology - and even more so despise its origin and inventor .... there's only one comment to make ....

Fake news.

Hi,
I'm sure nobody cares if g-play goes away hehe
I cared. I used it to pay people in the usa instead of other cash apps. As for paying with phone it doesn't matter because you can now use the replacement google wallet which is the new app.

this is just a troll thread.

Yes, I'm beginning to sense the presence of a mythical Norse creature .....

If not, then I apologise, and suspect there may be other issues at play.

Gmail is going nowhere, in fact it's here to stay. It's just getting a new look.

Well even turkeys can vote for Xmas. What could more likely is that to use that dreadful US "consultanese speak" where the pressure is on to monetise every last possible thing it could become another one of those dreaded subscription things or become ad supported i.e some type of banner ads appearing in your emails.

I'd switch away from Gmail anyway -- Thunderbird is free and quite good plus there are a few reasonably cheap alternatives too.

Cheers
jimbo
Thunderbird is great but I use Gmail as my default for Firefox. Once I figure out how to import my Gmail address book into Thunderbird I might change - on the other hand I might try Easybird
