Solved Is your smart TV a secret proxy? LG to suspend rogue apps, Samsung sets impacted too


I bought a large screen Samsung Smart TV last year. Plugged it in, updated all the firmware, then turned the network off.
You can't buy a large screen dumb TV anymore, so that's what has to be done sadly.
I have an external home theater audio/video box from Denon, and use it and the cable box to source material.
So the TV is relegated to just being a monitor.

The manufacturers are paid to install the apps onto the devices.
It is very difficult to get a non smart tv.
A colleague brought a a commercial LG Display and is hooked to Apple Tv.
He said it is more responsive than a TV loaded with Apps

My Sister has a Two Door Liebherr and it is very well made. She has been happy with it so far.
She was not so lucky with a Premium brand washing machine which had a design flaw with the motor.
At the time the Local Branch of the International Company was located in the same suburb where she lived.
After the second motor stopped working the Local Branch told her they were waiting for a redesigned motor to arrive from overseas and had stopped supplying the old motors.
Mum lived in the next Suburb and they played tag for about a month with dirty and clean washing loads, Mum did not complain as she got to spend more time with the Grand Children.

I first heard about this on Links with Friends (Level 1 Techs channel). I don't own a television. I haven't owned a T.V. since 1989. I'm exempt from a lot of things because I simply refuse to participate. This doesn't mean I'm in the dark. I'm far from living like a Luddite. I just do everything through PCs. Not saying everyone has to follow my example but it is an option. I get more than enough [viewing] documentaries and movies etc. simply through torrents. For those who wish to argue that this is piracy they will have to convince me first that everything that I purchase is in fact my property. That includes all software and internet usage. :cool:

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.

Intel agency's i dont know what it is,.. but Google and Microsoft do not know much about me. ;-)
ANd it is a really big difference between catching meta data from a device VS caching actual audio from your living room or bedroom (where you have the TV.)

okay.. I never heard intel agency's. intelligence agency's i know of very well.
It would actually be fun to know what NSA have picked up on me.. as i dont live in US its harder for them to get hold of swedish government information.. so they only can collect on public information :-)

I wonder how many of you have ever bothered to delete your Amazon Alexa devices voice history? For those that still use Echo devices, take a look in your voice history under Alexa Privacy. I would highly suggest that if you are concerned enough about what you're leaking on a daily basis, you might want to have a delete session :LOL:

I tried Alexa, but I deleted the device and it's history. I have a couple of them in a junkbox in my closet. 🤣

I know.. But i have been controlling what i post online since i got internet in the mid 90's.. never my full name, never my exact age.. just mid 70's, never my address, never my phone number, never a picture of myself etc.. My computer-name, email or online username has no association to my full name. Marie is as soooo common around my age group as first name so it becomes anonymous. and i have not been included in any data breaches.
So from an OSINT perspective, I'm more or less as a Ghost online.

I'm sure I'm not an exception and maybe just not paranoid but I really don't care if my Smart TV's track my viewing habits. I recommend what shows and movies I like anyway so what do I care. And if you want to stream TV shows and movies which I and most people do a lot of these days you gotta connect it to WiFi or ethernet. As a matter of fact since I got rid of cable TV all my TV viewing including live TV is streamed. I prefer enjoying TV viewing not being afraid of it but to each his own.

Same here and the same about all tech.
I have the luxury that i have the knowledge to just just remove the problem from the tech.
If i ever get a smart-TV when a dumb-TV cant be bought any longer, i would not use the smart function as i would use the Cable-TV instead of IPTV.. and as i have a computer hooked up to my TV i run my movies, series and music from that one. I dont know of any TV that have 20TB disk space. (without hooking up to external storage)
If i ever would hook up a smart-TV to internet, i would not let the Microphones be connected to the circuit-board as you dont need microphones inside a TV. And i would kill all unwanted domains it tries to connect to.

So being afraid of tech... No.... I take control of the tech, then letting the tech control me. :-)
