It looks like I'm stuck with Windows 10.


More than a few people have gotten the current DEV leak to install / upgrade on machines that are no supported by Microsoft pages. And in the next week or so, the Insider Preview builds will start being pushed out to members of the Windows Insider program.

We still don't know what is going to happen in the end, but just about anyone will soon be able to at least try it.

I tried installing Win 11 through the insiders preview, but the install failed. I downloaded from UUP dump ISO and Rufus tool. That worked very well and had a successful install… everything works, it’s very fast. The only issue is Windows Defender doesn’t recognize my TPM, Secure Boot or Virtualization and reports Standard hardware security not supported. 2B251209-F993-4DF7-A887-78C6D58AEE3F.jpegI did a quick PassMark benchmark… slightly lower video scores vs Win 10…
My computer doesn’t meet Win 11 CPU generation standards, it doesn’t seem to matter much and it runs very well.
Microsoft did a nice job designing this Windows version… best version so far!

And realize that this is a Dev build leak release (thanks @ish4d0w ), which according to Preparing for Insider Preview Builds of Windows 11 is supposed to run on hardware that is 'not compatible' - so it makes sense that the TPM settings are broken. Otherwise it would not run on those devices that had hardware not meeting the HW requirements.

Upvoted. However that does not seem to be the leaked build. There is now a newer, officially released Dev Ring build. This is probably about that. Why do you call it a "Dev build leak"?

Oh that's totally alright - I too, confuse things in these days, I need to get more sleep.

I just wanted to double check because I was worried there might be another leak! (and leaks are bad in my opinion because they are untested)

I guess your HP spectre 2015 x360 laptop has a 5th gen Intel (Braswell) CPU, which definitely did not make the cut

my bro's HP spectre x360 15 2020 laptop (which has 10th gen Intel CPU, an i7-10510U), on the other hand, is eligible for a Win11 upgrade though I will not upgrade that to Win11 until probably the middle of this decade (maybe 2025 or so)

we'll see if MS will let users with 7th gen Intel & AMD Zen 1 hardware get Win11

You could always install 11 using an ISO from uupdump.net. I have done that, with 22000.51 and have received Windows Updates for it (to 22000.168).

What would happen after 5 October, I don't know. Prepared to gamble?

I got kicked out, but I am still receiving ordinary Windows 11 updates, like Windows Defender definition files and updates for the Antimalware platform.

You don't know that yet, there hasn't been another CU since 22000.168 last Thursday while you were still an Insider. As there seems to be a new CU each Thursday there should be another one today. You'll know one way or the other when that's released.

I'm not an Insider, but both my machines, one with fully supported hardware, the other well below spec (1st gen i5) have receiced all the updates so far.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

In which case, installing from an ISO will be pointless.

I expect that you'll receive Windows updates like us non-insiders. If I'm mistaken, and no further updates are offered to either of us, I'll be disappointed. (I'd hate to have to update by running an upgrade installations form an ISO. Assuming that would work.)

Check out the HP Community Forum. I submitted a question on tpm upgrade for a Gen 6 Intel laptop and got a very fast response pointing to the the specific document on how to do it.

note that:
I haven't done the tpm upgrade yet as I don't have immediate access to the the laptop in question.
Assuming it works (tpm1.2 -> tpm 2.0) then all Win 11 upgrade criteria will be met except for the processor - so it will still not be officially supported :(.
