junk files and registry items safe to delete with Ccleaner 7

It is safe to delete your junk files as they are junk. But don’t clean your registry too much. Excessive cleaning of the registry can cause you untold problems. Just to name one, your office products will stop cooperating with you.

When I need to clean the registry, I do it manually through regedit. I handpick the entries to remove.

To stop it from updating to version 6, just block CheckUpdate.dll and CrashReport.dll with your firewall.

Man, not me. After 40 years, I don't claim to know enough about Windows darker places to be anything but dangerous. It's a web of lies and deceit. Just like with event viewer, I don't hang around in there much either.

Words of wisdom.

I do have quite a bit of experience with CCleaner over the years, and I did indeed mess up the registry on one occasion. Recently the registry cleaner seems to find few things needing to be cleaned, and unlike @antspants I do find that Revo uninstaller does sometimes leave behind registry entries after cleaning up all the leftovers. I am a cheapskate and no longer pay for CCleaner, which I mainly use for removing unwanted cookies, however, I have found recently that it doesn't actually find all the cookies or remove them any more. (It leaves a zero byte file with the name of the cookie intact). If I carry out a clean up with cookie removal, and then check the cookies in Edge, there are many entries there that didn't even show up in CCleaner. I also find that many of the 'junk files' that disappear on cleaning immediately appear again, because Windows recreates them.
The fact is that you can do a more thorough job, and a more effective job of cleaning up using the built in windows tools than using CCleaner. It is 'easier' though, to use CCleaner.

It actually is. Sure, if you use Driver updates it can go bad, but using the cleaning features are fine. . .

After watching many systems that needed to be completely reinstalled (including several of my own) after running CCleaner, the only advice that I can give to anyone wanting to use it is to not walk, but run far away from it.

If you feel you must do a registry clean, you're on your own as that is something I never do to my own system.

What I do however is run a program like Bulk Crap Uninstaller on clean system or GEEK Uninstaller or Revo Uninstaller to remove all traces of unneeded/unwanted applications.

When I need to clean out junk files, windows log files, and such I turn to DiskMax. It does a good enough job for me and I've never had a system unable to boot before from using it.
