OS
Windows 11
In September I reinstalled W11 because there was so much lagging, driver issues, etc, etc.

After the reinstall the issues continued. Mostly it revolves around USB devices constantly disconnecting and reconnecting. Internet on, then off, then on, then off, then on, off, on, off. off.... then it works flawlessly for two three days.

Same thing with mouse and keyboard. These are basic but essential things that have to work.

It's not the my internet, nor my router. It's not the mouse or the keyboard either. From what I've googled this is a windows issue that aaparently other people have too. It's not energy saving settings either. I have gone through everything possible.

Throw a suggestion at me. But there's no reason why these things shouldn't work. The router and internet work fine for every other device. Bought a new wifi dongle, same thing. Keyboard and mouse work fine on another pc.

I am doing another install this weekend. If it doesn't work then bye bye windows, hello linux. Fed up with the nonsense.

Typing this took two restarts and disconnecting and reconnecting USB devices. Waste of my time.

That is a hardware issues rather than a Windows issue, iow an issue with the motherboard and/or drivers for the motherboard. What does the logs in Event Viewer say?

One thing to test is to add a PCIe USB card to see if that works or if you get the same problems when you connect USB devices to it.

I tend to agree that it is not a windows issue. If it was we would all have the problem. .

I would opt to get a used system that works with gen 9 intel TPM2 and stick with windows 11, this is not a windows problem you face, its drivers or bios needs updated but windows 11 might not be compatible with your current chipset drivers so what ever PC you have see if the manufacturer of the PC offers any kind of update for bios and chipset. odds are linux will piddle you off just as much, and you will face printer drivers that work

About 12 years ago I had such a problem with Windows 7 and did all kinds of tests to determine what was the problem. At the end it appeared one of the memory'boards' had some rotten cells. Only during a long memorytest testing every cell (under several conditions) that was appearing... As soon as the OS or one of the programs needed those memorycells, the slow action was there. Solution was to replace that memory.

And about 1,5 year ago I had another problem, where Windows 11 suddenly was very slow. Almost every action was slow, but especially when the system was using the M2 SDD systemdrive. The only way that made clear that that drive (just one year old!) was rotten, was to make or restore images, for which I use a fully offline Linux app Clonezilla, that loads from a USB-flashdrive. Even during those restores, faults were reported and so I knew that drive was no good. Decided to replace it and put back a (known) good image. After that the problem was gone. But finding the reason took me days!

So both slowdowns indeed were caused by pure hardware failures, not even driver problems!

Which USB ports are the problem? Front ports or back or both? the USB 3.0 (blue) ports? or the USB 2.0 (Grey/Black)?
Be sure to not use a USB Hub or USB Extender cable and you are plugging all devices into the computer directly. Also, that your USB cables are no longer than 6FT, Any cable loner than this, like using an extender cable will have connection issues.

If using the Front panel USB ports, they are attached by a cable to the motherboard. Reseat this cable, Make sure this cable is inserted into the motherboard tightly.
If that is all good, then press the Windows Key +X and choose Device Manager. Any devices with Yellow marks need drivers.
Go to the Asus Download page for your model,
Download the Chipset driver (for USB) you can still download this even if you have the most recent driver. There is no harm. Install and restart the computer.

Go back to this page and download any other drivers you need from the Device Manager.

Firstly, I do appreciate that you all responded and wanted to help. Thank you.

But... I switched to Linux Mint that very day I created this thread and haven't had a single issue since. The PC runs tip top. It doesn't take much googling to find more people that have the same issues I had so to say it's not Windows but definitely my PC is not correct. Now the USBs work, driver for audio works, everything is nice and snappy the way it should be.

Again, I really do appreciate that you wanted to help but for me it's 100% clear that the issue was not hardware but rather OS related. I will mark this thread solved as it's not relevant anymore.

Not everyone can simple hop over to Linux, many of us have significant Windows Only applications that are not replaceable 1:1 with a Linux application.

Fortunately, your story doesn't really convince me that this was really simply a Windows issue. We have six Windows computers here with five different manufacturers, and I've never had anything remotely resembling what you're describing. My grandson has at least three different systems running several different Linux distributions as well. While Windows certainly isn't perfect, my day to day experience with all the Windows systems here has been pretty steady. I know my grandson has at least as many issues with his Linux installations as I have with Windows, and maybe a few more.
