Windows 11 servicing stack update - 22621.1771

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Applies toSymptomWorkaround
IT adminsUsing provisioning packages on Windows 11, version 22H2 (also called Windows 11 2022 Update) might not work as expected. Windows might only be partially configured, and the Out Of Box Experience might not finish or might restart unexpectedly. Provisioning packages are .PPKG files which are used to help configure new devices for use on business or school networks. Provisioning packages which are applied during initial setup are most likely to be impacted by this issue. For more information on provisioning packages, please see Provisioning packages for Windows.

Note Provisioning Windows devices using Windows Autopilot is not affected by this issue.

Windows devices used by consumers in their home or small offices are not likely to be affected by this issue.
If you can provision the Windows device before upgrading to Windows 11, version 22H2, this will prevent the issue.

We are presently investigating and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
IT adminsYou might have intermittent issues saving, copying, or attaching files using 32-bit apps, which are large address aware and using the CopyFile API. Windows devices are more likely to be affected by this issue when using some commercial or enterprise security software that uses extended file attributes. Microsoft Office apps, such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel are only affected when using 32-bit versions and you might receive the error, "Document not saved."

This issue is unlikely to be experienced by consumers using Windows devices in their home or on non-managed commercial devices. Apps are not affected by this issue if they are 64-bit or 32-bit and NOT large address aware.
To mitigate the issue, you can attempt to save or copy again. Since the issue is intermittent, it is likely to succeed on a subsequent try.

We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

How to get this update

Before installing this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

Release ChannelAvailableNext Step
Windows Update or Microsoft UpdateYesGo to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. In the Optional updates available area, you’ll find the link to download and install the update.
Windows Update for BusinessNoNone. These changes will be included in the next security update to this channel.
Microsoft Update CatalogYesTo get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)NoYou can import this update into WSUS manually. See the Microsoft Update Catalog for instructions.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

There's a loooong discussion of some having the option while others don't, in

It seems haphazard. I've got 'em; others don't. But same build 1778.
Both of my computers (listed below) updated to 22621.1778 without incident and both computers have the option to display "seconds" which I have opted to do. My wife has a Dell Inspiron 5593 updated to 22621.1778 and her computer also has the option available to display "seconds".

@Ghot and @man00
It's 3.3 now. 3.2 is "outdated," according to the author.

Gary et al,

We can only say this so many times before the mods are going to close the shop: some users have the setting and the seconds in 2261-1778; some (apparently many) don't.

I have to wonder how many of those that don't have it simply click on the settings for Time and don't see it because that's where it isn't! o_O

I asked my wife if she had "seconds" on her computer and she said NOPE! It isn't there!
Then I said, "Right-click on the Taskbar and choose "Taskbar settings" and then choose "Taskbar behaviors".
She then said, "I've got it, but whoever thought up putting it where I would never look to find it?".

Coupla quotes from the other thread:

"Today I've updated to .1778 though, and seconds are now gone!
On top of that, I have no option in the Taskbar behavior to "show seconds"."

"That happened to several people here with the 1778 build, luckily mine remained. The same happened to me on my previous beta build however but the good news was the latest beta build restored the seconds as well as the on/off switch so you should be getting them back in a later release."

Notto true-oh. A buncha folks here have reported 1778 installed with neither the Taskbar behavior switch nor the seconds on the clock (even with the famous Brink reg hack in place, for some), and it seems from a lot of confusion showing up around the Net that MS is rolling the feature out slowly, and some have it already, while others are waiting. Some have claimed that if they switched the "Get the latest updates" switch ON, then checked for updates, they suddenly had the feature, no restart required. I trust most of them went back and flicked that switch OFF later. In any case, if you bravely go into the "get the latest" world and you see an update you don't want or even don't recognize coming down the pipe, you can immediately hit the "Pause for one week" button and the download and the install will be terminated. Whew!

Yes, I used your image. The option to display seconds is simply not there.....

Not an issue as I don't care about seconds being displayed, but yeah, not there.

Patience, my friend. When it comes to features that some have and some don't have (in the same build), in time you can count on getting them, even though (in this case) you don't give a toot. Rolling feature updates are a lot like death and taxes.
