IMPORTANT Because of minimal operations during the Western holidays and the upcoming new year, there won’t be a non-security preview release for the month of December 2023. There will be a monthly security release for December 2023. Normal monthly servicing for both security and non-security preview releases will resume in January 2024.

IMPORTANT After February 27, 2024, there will no longer be optional, non-security preview releases for Windows 11, version 22H2. Only cumulative monthly security updates will continue for the supported editions of Windows 11, version 22H2.

Windows 11, version 22H2​

This non-security update includes quality improvements. When you install this KB:
  • This update addresses an issue that affects .RAR files. They display as if they are empty in File Explorer.
  • This update affects the Netherlands time zone. It adds the recent man-made landmass outside of Rotterdam to the shape files.
  • This update addresses an issue that affects the Trusted Sites Zone logon policy. You cannot manage it using mobile device management (MDM).

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Affected environments are those with the “Enforce drive encryption type on operating system drives” or "Enforce drive encryption on fixed drives" policies set to enabled and selecting either "full encryption" or "used space only". Microsoft Intune is affected by this issue but third-party MDMs might also pe affected.

Important This issue is a reporting issue only and does not affect drive encryption or the reporting of other issues on the device, including other BitLocker issues.		To mitigate this issue in Microsoft Intune, you can set the “Enforce drive encryption type on operating system drives” or "Enforce drive encryption on fixed drives" policies to not configured.

All usersWindows devices using more than one (1) monitor might experience issues with desktop icons moving unexpectedly between monitors or other icon alignment issues when attempting to use Copilot in Windows (in preview).To prevent users from encountering this issue, Copilot in Windows (in preview) might not be available on devices that have been used or are currently being used in a multimonitor configuration.

All usersWhen using physical media or disc images (ISO) to install Windows 11, version 23H2 (also referred to as the Windows 11 2023 Update) on a device, Microsoft Narrator might not start.

Narrator is commonly initialized using keyboard commands, such as Ctrl + Windows key + Enter. Although Narrator is present in Windows when the installation process begins, it might open in an unresponsive state when initialized using any method.

Please note this issue does not occur when Windows 11, version 23H2 is installed using Windows Update on a device which is already running Windows 10 or Windows 11. This issue only occurs when physical media or ISOs are used for this installation and Narrator is only affected while the installation process is taking place. It should continue to work as expected once the installation is completed.		We are working on a resolution and updated media which can be used to install Windows 11, version 23H2 without this issue. We will provide an update in an upcoming release.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

First one of these Previews that has given me major problems.

After install, the search box on the taskbar no longer worked. I tried different settings, but nothing worked.

So, I uninstalled the update but after reboot, explorer was broken because I no longer got any icons in the taskbar.

I had to restore from the MR image backup I made prior to the update.

I tried to install KB5032288 on my desktop 3 times over the past 3 days.
Get's to 70% and then nothing.
One time it went 100% and tried to install after reboot and stayed at 0% for over an hour and nothing.
Thank goodness I have C: drive backed up and easy recovery.
Guess we will wait a week or so and try again.

Almost sound like WIN XP, Win7, Win10 problems.
To me Win11 is getting way too complicated for the everyday users.
Think Microsoft and look back on your past.

I'm a little late, but installed KB5032288 on my laptop today. Very surprised it took 13½ minutes from start to end of re-boot. Very surprised, never had a update install happen this fast in years and years of using Windows (started Windows with version 95...still have the discs).

Just wondering: Given that there are a lot of issues emerging with this preview, my question is: Does MS revise the preview packages from day to day, so if you download the 5032288 Preview on, say, Friday, you might get a different version (with the same number) from the one you got on Monday? Or does MS wait until PT to post any revised version of the preview? Or, as is typical of MS, is this completely random and unpredictable? 🤷‍♂️

I don't think the packages get revised daily, if a major bug is found they might pull it for a few days then release a new one, but other than that they don't change.

Yep, this update has messed up a lot of gaming services and stability in the games I play, even seen the 'nvlddmkm' errors saying it could not find my GPU. I found a 'fix' for the 'Service Control Manager' errors (ID 7023 and 7031) on Reddit, which seems to have supressed these errors.
But no fix for the nvlddmkm ones (see how many happened today just when my PC started up out of sleep this morning), which only started after the update, and I've had more games crashing in a day or so than the previous year.

Should theses issues go away if I uninstall this KB5032288?

After trying to install on my Desktop PC 3 times I have decided to wait a few weeks to see if MS makes a better install KB because KB5032288 is problematic.

I asked CoPilot why KB5032288 takes so long to install on my laptop and it said.....

"KB5032288 is a cumulative update for Windows 11, version 22H2 and 23H2, that includes various features and improvements|
1. Some users have reported that this update takes a long time to download and install, especially at certain percentages
2. This could be due to various factors, such as network speed, disk space, system performance, or other issues.
Here are some possible solutions to speed up the installation process:

Pause and resume the update from Windows Update settings.

Run the Windows Update troubleshooter from Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Windows Update.

Delete the temporary files from Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files.

Restart your computer and try again.

Download the update manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog3 and install it using the standalone installer.

If none of these solutions work, you can also try to reset Windows Update components using the command prompt.
You can find the detailed steps on this website.
Please note that this is an advanced option and you should back up your data before proceeding.
