For information about Windows update terminology, see the article about the types of Windows updates and the monthly quality update types.

Note Follow @WindowsUpdate to find out when new content is published to the Windows release health dashboard.

Important: Windows 11, version 24H2 targets Copilot+ PCs devices and devices that previously used Windows Insider 24H2 builds.

Highlights

  • This update addresses security issues for your Windows operating system.

Improvements

This security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5041865 (released August 27, 2024). Below is a summary of the key issues that this update addresses when you install this KB. If there are new features, it lists them as well. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.
  • [Windows Installer] When it repairs an application, the User Account Control (UAC) does not prompt for your credentials. After you install this update, the UAC will prompt for them. Because of this, you must update your automation scripts. Application owners must add the Shield icon. It indicates that the process requires full administrator access. To turn off the UAC prompt, set the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\DisableLUAInRepair registry value to 1. The changes in this update might affect automatic Windows Installer repairs; see Application Resiliency: Unlock the Hidden Features of Windows Installer.
  • [Task Manager] Graphs on the Performance page in Task Manager do not show the correct colors when you use dark mode.
If you installed earlier updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

For more information about security vulnerabilities, please refer to the Security Update Guide website and the September 2024 Security Updates.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5043113)- 26100.1738

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Applies toSymptomWorkaround
All usersWe’re aware of an issue where players on Arm devices are unable to download and play Roblox via the Microsoft Store on Windows.Players on Arm devices can play Roblox by downloading the title directly from www.Roblox.com.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

AvailableNext Step
Yes (Windows Update)None. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update and Microsoft Update.
Yes (MSU)To get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

File information

For a list of the files that are provided in this update, download the file information for cumulative update 5043080.

For a list of the files that are provided in the servicing stack update, download the file information for the SSU (KB5043113) - version 26100.1738.

Just funning.
Well, maybe not. If 24H2 is anything like the fiasco with people trying to update to 23H2 on unsupported machines (pre Brinks enablement package), get out your Flak Jacket and Bazooka.

At least that’s how I remember it. But with explosions and lots of smoke.

I opted out of the Windows Insider release preview programme over a week ago but I got the cumulative update to 26100.1742 this morning just as I was leaving for work. I chose the 'Update and shutdown' option but my PC just installed the update, restarted then loaded to the Windows login screen. When I signed into Windows to shutdown again, I still had the 'Update and shutdown' option under Power but on choosing that my PC finally shutdown, restarted again then shutdown after during the Windows blue flag loading screen. Very odd install procedure. Surely, 'Update and shutdown' should do exactly that and not require the user to have to select it a second time?

Does anyone know if this update fixes the issue with Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (both from Ubisoft) 'crashing' to the desktop within 10 minutes of resuming a save game without any error message of any kind or crash entry in the Event log? I highly doubt it will as it makes no mention of it here but yesterday's 2 GB patch for Star Wars: Outlaws did nothing to address this issue so it looks like the problem lies with Windows 11 24H2 itself and it is up to Microsoft to fix it. I just this isn't a situation where Ubisoft blame Microsoft for the issue and Microsoft blame Ubisoft because that isn't going to help anyone when this version of Windows 11 is pushed out to the public and more people find the game mysteriously crashing on their PCs...

can you list all /startcomponentcleanup commands you use and order ?
DISM /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
DISM /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

If component store needs repair then I do
DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Then I do a restart, and run SFC /verifyonly

If that says there are problems I do SFC/ scannow to repair

AC Origins has the same problem on Windows 11 24H2. Potential workaround>Disabling any overlay can reduce the occurrence of crashes.

This issue does not occur on Windows 11 23H2.

It can be good to not be a gamer. ;-)

In my daily usage, no crashes. No work-arounds.

I have been having a few odd issues with a few older games since reformatting and installing 24H2. They refuse to run or even open. No errors reported. My previous Windows install was an upgraded version, I believe starting from Windows 10, and the same games never had an issue. Definitely strange.
