  • This update addresses security issues for your Windows operating system.

Improvements​

This security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5043178 (released September 26, 2024). Below is a summary of the key issues that this update addresses when you install this KB. If there are new features, it lists them as well. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.
  • [Remote Desktop Gateway Service] Fixed: The service stops responding. This occurs when a service uses remote procedure calls (RPC) over HTTP. Because of this, the clients that are using the service disconnect.
If you installed earlier updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB 5046306)- 26100.2032​

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Enterprise usersAfter a fresh install or an In-place upgrade to Windows 11, version 24H2, you might face issues with connecting via DirectAccess. You might observe that the DirectAccess connection is not completing and remains in a ‘connecting’ state. Additionally, you can determine if you are affected by this issue by following the below steps:
  • Open Windows PowerShell in administrator prompt. This can be accomplished by opening the Start menu and typing ‘powershell’ and selecting from the results on the right side of the start menu.
  • Type the text ‘netsh interface httpstunnel show interface’ and press enter
  • If your device is experiencing this issue, you’ll observe that the output includes the following text:
    • Last Error Code : 0x57
    • Interface Status : failed to connect to the IPHTTPS server. Waiting to reconnect
You are more likely to face this issue if your device is remotely connecting to a corporate intranet using DirectAccess. Home users of Windows using Home or Pro editions are unlikely to face this issue as DirectAccess is more commonly used in enterprise environments.

Note: Enterprise customers that require DirectAccess are recommended to evaluate Always On VPN (AOVPN) until a fix becomes available.		This issue is addressed in KB5044384.

Install this update

Method 1: Install all MSU files together
Download all MSU files for KB5044284 from Microsoft Update Catalog and place them in the same folder (for example, C:/Packages). Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM.exe) to install the target update. DISM will use the folder specified in PackagePath to discover and install one or more prerequisite MSU files as needed.

Updating Windows PC
To apply this update to a running Windows PC, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:
DISM /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5044284-x64.msu

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

Thanks for the info. I was looking to see if this was addressed somewhere, and your link helps to point in a direction.

That said, I've ended up removing the update. Will await to see if Microsoft actually addresses this, as I really depend on my NAS (WD PR4100) since it's my main media library for music streaming and part of my Hi-Fi system. It also doesn't (never) required SMB 1.0, and instead uses SMB 2 & 3. Point... if the new security feature is to rid 1.0 access, that isn't me.

Thankfully the desktop hasn't seen it yet, and I'll make sure it doesn't for the time being.

I do not wish the enable SMB 1, which is a security risk and why Microsoft basically doesn't want to support it, and it is disabled by default. BTW, that tutorial you linked about doesn't work, so.... 🤷‍♂️

On .2033 and just had the problem again with mashed IP addresses. Some sites were fine but a good many had 'can't reach' notices. A restart gets it back to normal.

Thought all problems were gone as it was a couple of weeks since this last occurred.

I see this problem reported when I do a search but it seems no one knows what causes it or how to fix it. Another 23H2 comp on my network was fine so it is a 24H2 problem.

There's not much risk on a home network behind your router's firewall. But even if there was, the bigger risk is if you enable 'SMB 1.0/CIFS Server'. You don't need that to use a legacy NAS that only supports SMB1, only the 'SMB 1.0/CIFS Client' is needed.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

Thanks, I know how to install (enable) it. I've done it before; It's just not a recommendation I'd suggest for security reasons. And BTW (and as a test), enabling 1.0 didn't solve the issue anyway. That said, I did it from the Windows side, not the NAS side.

Anyway, going back to 23H2 solved the issue. Now I need to find a fix that works before moving back to 24H2.

1) I tried to restore Secure Boot; disable it, reboot into Windows and reboot the computer twice with Secure Boot disabled and then re-enable it. Nothing.

2) I deleted the keys, put it in custom and rebooted twice. Nothing. Always error.

3) Then I went back to Standard, always the error present. Is it a bug, or is there something I have to do in the BIOS? CMOS?

Honestly, I'm getting the urge to reinstall Windows 11 23H2 that I downloaded yesterday from uupdump.net and wait until November to format (at least when it starts to be a little more "normal").

Perhaps you have to clear the keys in the TPM via your BIOS

1) I tried to restore Secure Boot; disable it, reboot into Windows and reboot the computer twice with Secure Boot disabled and then re-enable it. Nothing.

2) I deleted the keys, put it in custom and rebooted twice. Nothing. Always error.

3) Then I went back to Standard, always the error present. Is it a bug, or is there something I have to do in the BIOS? CMOS?

Honestly, I'm getting the urge to reinstall Windows 11 23H2 that I downloaded yesterday from uupdump.net and wait until November to format (at least when it starts to be a little more "normal").

That same day I had installed Windows 11 23H2 to see, precisely, if the TPM-WMI problem also occurred there: NO PROBLEM with the "old" version of Windows 23H2.

So are we going to get an update to .2033 to fix the main issues .

We also need the most important update none of us can do without i.e. change 'All apps" to "All".

This is especially important for regular users who are adamant they never use apps, and have probably never clicked that link. 🤣

As an aside, what does All without a qualifier really mean. Maybe it means All apps?

This update refuses to install on my system lol. My system still shows as 26100.1882.

I'm giving it one last shot, and then I'm gonna make a UUPDUMP .iso of 26100.2152 and install it over my current system and be done with it.

Hi,

I'm on 24H2 build 26100.2033 already, but Windows Update keeps trying to install KB5044284, even tho it shows as already installed on Update History. 😵‍💫

The event viewer error just says

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800736B3: 2024-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5044284)

I've already tried every single "Windows Update cleanup / reset" tutorial I could find, including the .bat provided on this forum, nothing works.

What gives? Should I just ignore this until there is a new update?
