Highlights

  • This update addresses security issues for your Windows operating system.

Improvements

This security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5043178 (released September 26, 2024). Below is a summary of the key issues that this update addresses when you install this KB. If there are new features, it lists them as well. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.
  • [Remote Desktop Gateway Service] Fixed: The service stops responding. This occurs when a service uses remote procedure calls (RPC) over HTTP. Because of this, the clients that are using the service disconnect.
If you installed earlier updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

For more information about security vulnerabilities, please refer to the Security Update Guide website and the October 2024 Security Updates.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB 5046306)- 26100.2032

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Applies toSymptomWorkaround
All usersWe’re aware of an issue where players on Arm devices are unable to download and play Roblox via the Microsoft Store on Windows.Players on Arm devices can play Roblox by downloading the title directly from www.Roblox.com.
Enterprise usersAfter a fresh install or an In-place upgrade to Windows 11, version 24H2, you might face issues with connecting via DirectAccess. You might observe that the DirectAccess connection is not completing and remains in a ‘connecting’ state. Additionally, you can determine if you are affected by this issue by following the below steps:
  • Open Windows PowerShell in administrator prompt. This can be accomplished by opening the Start menu and typing ‘powershell’ and selecting from the results on the right side of the start menu.
  • Type the text ‘netsh interface httpstunnel show interface’ and press enter
  • If your device is experiencing this issue, you’ll observe that the output includes the following text:
    • Last Error Code : 0x57
    • Interface Status : failed to connect to the IPHTTPS server. Waiting to reconnect
You are more likely to face this issue if your device is remotely connecting to a corporate intranet using DirectAccess. Home users of Windows using Home or Pro editions are unlikely to face this issue as DirectAccess is more commonly used in enterprise environments.

Note: Enterprise customers that require DirectAccess are recommended to evaluate Always On VPN (AOVPN) until a fix becomes available.
This issue is addressed in KB5044384.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

AvailableNext Step
Yes (Windows Update)None. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update and Microsoft Update.
Yes (MSU)Before you install this update
To get the standalone package(s) for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website. This KB contains one or more MSU files that must be installed in order.

Install this update

Method 1: Install all MSU files together

Download all MSU files for KB5044284 from Microsoft Update Catalog and place them in the same folder (for example, C:/Packages). Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM.exe) to install the target update. DISM will use the folder specified in PackagePath to discover and install one or more prerequisite MSU files as needed.

Updating Windows PC
To apply this update to a running Windows PC, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:
DISM /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5044284-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:
Add-WindowsPackage -Online -PackagePath "c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5044284-x64.msu"

Updating Windows Installation media
To apply this update to Windows Installation media, see Update Windows installation media with Dynamic Update.

To add this update to a mounted image, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:
DISM /Image:mountdir /Add-Package /PackagePath:Windows11.0-KB5044284-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:
Add-WindowsPackage -Path "c:\offline" -PackagePath "Windows11.0-KB5044284-x64.msu" -PreventPending

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

File information

For a list of the files that are provided in this update, download the file information for cumulative update 5044284.

For a list of the files that are provided in the servicing stack update, download the file information for the SSU (KB 5046306) - version 26100.2032.

And all three of these can get windows 11 and 12 so never out of touch

But I do want 24H2over WU and it's not coming.
In my case W.U. failed wit error 0xC1900101 and reverted back to 23H2. 😂😝🤬
I had to use the MS ISO 26100.1742 to do the upgrade and that worked fine. After that W.U. brought it up to 26100.2033 which has 2 known bugs.
I applied manually the .msu file below to get to get up to 26100.2152 which, at least, eliminated the SFC /SCANNOW bug.

1729407475284.png
Still have the 8.63 GB of leftover Windows Update Cleanup.
Also, I had to change some settings in the Firewall to get the network to work. 😉👍
24H2 is still not ready for prime time. I hope they cleanup the bugs with next updates. 😝🤬

That's why I'm waiting for WU, tried In place upgrade with ISO twice but had those usual problems. Dual booting with 24H2 insider Dev. which has same faults but everything else works fine.

Yesterday I installed 24H2 on three machines, two compatible, one non-compatible. One compatible and the non-compatible installed KB5044284 no problem and updated the version to .2033. My main machine, System 1 in the Specs, refuses to install this KB and after showing 40% for sometime will show a message, "Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry undoing changes. Please keep your computer on." After sometime it resolves itself and boots into Windows. It has done this upon four tries. Before the fourth try I ran sfc and it found and supposedly fixed errors but the problem persists. Anyone else have this problem or know how to resolve it?

This is my main machine which I use for video editing, wouldn't you know. : (

I know about the sfc bug, but is that related to the fact that my computer will not install KB5044284? Upon every reboot that KB is in Windows Update, just as it is again right now, where WU is wanting to Restart to complete the install of KB5044284 when in fact it will not. So I'm stuck in a loop.

Edit: A real slap the forehead moment for me. I found that my C: drive was full in part because it had old versions of Windows still on it (plus video I've been editing) and once I freed up space on the drive KB5044284 installed.:D

I think I solved it: I added x040:

reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Secureboot /v AvailableUpdates /t REG_DWORD /d 0x40 /f

Reading on the official Microsoft Page.

With 24H2 Pro 26100.1742 I had this problem.
My Windows 10 Pro could access Windows 11 24H2 through my network, however Windows 11 24H2 could not access my Windows 10 Pro or any earlier versions of Windows 11 Pro Computers this only happened since I went to 24H2.
To fix this issue I did both of these changes in Local Group Policy Editor. And Now all is happy including me. I hope this helps.

Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies, Security Options
Double click on Microsoft Network Client: Digitally sign communications (always)
Double click on Microsoft Network Client: Digitally sign communications (if server agrees)
Set both of these to "Disabled"
Click on OK.

Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Network, Lanman Workstation
Double click on "Enable Insecure Guest Logons"
Set this to "Enabled"
Click on OK.

Ive just installed KB5044284 through windows update and I still have full network access
Now on 26100.2033

I'm on a Private Network. Ive done nothing else.

Yeah! It's a pleasure to be able to help people. In my case, once I finished formatting Windows 11 24H2 (I have the iso with the build .2033) I have to do two commands:

1)
Code:
reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Secureboot /v AvailableUpdates /t REG_DWORD /d 0x200 /f

Reboot a couple of times (this first command to install the “'Windows UEFI CA 2023”).

2)
Code:
reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Secureboot /v AvailableUpdates /t REG_DWORD /d 0x40 /f

Reboot a couple of times. (This step (instead) will add the “Windows UEFI CA 2023” certificate to the UEFI “Secure Boot Signature Database” (DB))

Here is an easy way to install with a local account as an alternative to oobe bypassnro method for any 24H2 build including Insiders.
Regrettably, this does not work for Wndows Home users.

This also works in vm installations where shift+f10 does not work to get to command prompt.

1. At page asking for MS account, click on "Set up for work or school"

2. Click on sign-in options

3. Click on "Domain join instead"

p3.png

4. Enter your local account name that you wish to use

p4.png

5. Enter a password (or just press enter for no password)

If you enter a password, you need to confirm it and answer 3 security questions in case you need to reset password later.
I have not shown those screens.

6. Carry on with rest of oobe as normal

Noticed 22H4 got installed on my laptop last night, and like a few other posts I saw... I'm unable to access my NAS now. On my desktop machine, where I've not gotten 224H4 yet, zero access issues, as it was BEFORE 22H4 got installed on my laptop.

Given that bit of news, I've decided to prevent 22H4 on my desktop till I figure out how to get my NAS recognized again
