Win Update KB5046617 Windows 11 Cumulative Update build 26100.2314 (24H2) - Nov. 12

UPDATE 11/21:

 Microsoft Support:

November 12, 2024 - KB5046617 (OS Build 26100.2314)

IMPORTANT Because of minimal operations during the Western holidays and the upcoming new year, there won’t be a non-security preview release for the month of December 2024. There will be a monthly security release for December 2024. Normal monthly servicing for both security and non-security preview releases will resume in January 2025.

For information about Windows update terminology, see the article about the types of Windows updates and the monthly quality update types. For an overview of Windows 11, version 24H2, see its update history page.

Note Follow @WindowsUpdate to find out when new content is published to the Windows release health dashboard.

Important: Windows updates do not install Microsoft Store application updates. If you are an enterprise user, see Microsoft Store apps - Configuration Manager. If you are a consumer user, see Get updates for apps and games in Microsoft Store.

Tip: See the release notes for Windows Server 2025.

Highlights

  • This update addresses security issues for your Windows operating system.

Improvements

This security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5044384 (released October 24, 2024). Below is a summary of the key issues that this update addresses when you install this KB. If there are new features, it lists them as well. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.
  • [Task Manager (known issue)] Fixed: The count for the number of groups is wrong or always zero (0) on the Processes tab. This occurs when you turn on “Group by type.”
  • [Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)] Fixed: You cannot access your Dev Drive.
  • [Internet connection] Fixed: A small number of devices cannot connect to the internet. This occurs when a DHCP server response has duplicate DHCP options. This stops IPv4 connections on certain networks.
If you installed earlier updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

For more information about security vulnerabilities, please refer to the Security Update Guide website and the November 2024 Security Updates.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

AvailableNext Step
Yes (Windows Update)None. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update and Microsoft Update.
Yes (MSU)Before you install this update
To get the standalone package(s) for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website. This KB contains one or more MSU files that must be installed in order.

Install this update

Method 1: Install all MSU files together

Download all MSU files for KB5046617 from Microsoft Update Catalog and place them in the same folder (for example, C:/Packages). Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM.exe) to install the target update. DISM will use the folder specified in PackagePath to discover and install one or more prerequisite MSU files as needed.

Updating Windows PC
To apply this update to a running Windows PC, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

DISM /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5046617-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:

Add-WindowsPackage -Online -PackagePath "c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5046617-x64.msu"

Updating Windows Installation media
To apply this update to Windows Installation media, see Update Windows installation media with Dynamic Update.

To add this update to a mounted image, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

DISM /Image:mountdir /Add-Package /PackagePath:Windows11.0-KB5046617-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:

Add-WindowsPackage -Path "c:\offline" -PackagePath "Windows11.0-KB5046617-x64.msu" -PreventPending

Method 2: Install each MSU file individually, in order
Download and install each MSU file individually either using DISM or Windows Update Standalone Installer in the following order:
  1. windows11.0-kb5043080-x64_953449672073f8fb99badb4cc6d5d7849b9c83e8.msu
  2. windows11.0-kb5046617-x64_1e5d7b716c0747592ae80c218f1d81bbb7b0c7ab.msu

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

File information

For a list of the files that are provided in this update, download the file information for cumulative update 5046617.

For a list of the files that are provided in the servicing stack update, download the file information for the SSU (KB5047621) - version 26100.2303.

Updated my new Asus laptop (see system 2 under My Computer below).
It had Windows 23H2 on it. I completed a system image backup with Aomei Backupper Pro before starting the upgrade process.

Downloaded the Windows 11 Installation Assistant and it installed 24H2 26100.1742 in an hour. When finished I fired up Windows Update and it installed 26100.2454. Ran Windows Store to pick up any other updates.

No 24H2 failure, fiasco or flop here, just a fulsome experience and an easy Windows 11 24H2 upgrade.

I wonder, what is ms saying, the whole galaxy is laughing at them, they are not able to release a good version of windows, who thought of this system insiders think ???
So many builds and all with problems, shame !!!

Nobody is forcing you to use Insider versions. Almost by definition Insider versions will have bugs.

As H S T famously said "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the fire".

Also, .2454 is the RP version. OP probably posted in wrong thread.

26100.2454 came down with W.U. but only on insider R.P. channel. I think it was meant also for public build, but MS screwed up this time.
To get it as non-insider I downloaded the .msu below and installed it offline.

My post (# 220) had a typo (wrong build number). This has been corrected. The build of Windows 11 24H2 on my laptop is 26100.2314 installed via Windows Installation Assistant.

I may disappoint you, but I had a fall on the same day. I have both a Release Preview build and a regular one on my computer. The difference between the two updates is about one hour. I'm posting a screenshot.

I may disappoint you, but I had a fall on the same day. I have both a Release Preview build and a regular one on my computer. The difference between the two updates is about one hour. I'm posting a screenshot.

No disappointment. Clearly you are not in the US. I'm just telling you what happened here. 😉
Where are you located?
Could have been a regional difference. 🤷‍♂️
Here in the US, it just had one full day delay from R.P. to public. 😂😂😂🤷‍♂️
I have 4 machines on public build, and I checked several times on the day it was released.
I just got the update the following day.
On R.P. it came down on 11/19/2024 while on public build nothing until 11/21/2024. 🤣🤷‍♂️

Public build, non-insider.

The same KB# 5046740 was used twice in R.P channel, on 11/14/2024 to get up to Build 26100.2448 and on 11/19/2024 to get up to 26100.2454.

In Public Build it came down on 11/21/2024 to update from 26100.2314 to 26100.2454. 😎🤷‍♂️
I'm on the US Pacific coast.

What date did you get the update KB5046740 on non-insider Build?

On R.P. it came down on 11/20/2024 while on public build nothing until 11/21/2024.
You're right about the public build. I twisted something in my head, but the RP still came on November 19th, not November 20th. See the screenshots.

Even more delay, 2 days, from Nov 19 to Nov 21. 🤣🤣
In R.P. on Nov 14 the update had the same KB# 5046740, but it was the update for 26100.2448 not 26100.2454.
Then they reused the same KB# for the update to 26100.2454. That is pretty common in the R.P. channel.
They reuse the KB# and bump up the Build# when they also release it to the public. MS weird logic. 🤣🤣😵‍💫🤷‍♂️

MS Catalog shows the date 11/21/2024, that is when iit was available to public Build.
