This security update contains fixes and quality improvements from KB5065789 (released September 29, 2025). The following summary outlines key issues addressed by this update. Also, included are available new features. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change.
  • [Browser] Fixed: This update addresses an issue that caused the print preview screen to stop responding in Chromium-based browsers.
  • [Gaming] Fixed: An issue occurred when users signed in to a Windows device using only a Gamepad at the lock screen. If no other input methods—such as touch or fingerprint—were used during sign-in, apps and games did not respond to input afterward.
  • [PowerShell]
    • Fixed: This update addresses an issue that affects PowerShell Remoting and Windows Remote Management (WinRM), where commands might time out after 10 minutes.
    • Fixed: This update addresses an issue that prevented an audit event from being logged.
  • [Windows Hello] Fixed: This update addresses an issue that affects the setup process for Windows Hello face recognition when using USB infrared camera modules. Users were unable to complete setup due to a persistent error message, such as “Make sure your face is centered in the frame.”
  • [Compatibility] This update removes the ltmdm64.sys driver. Fax modem hardware dependent on this specific driver will no longer work in Windows.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5067360)- 26100.6893​

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. Known issues in this update​

1 Problems playing protected content in some BluRay/DVD/Digital TV apps

Symptoms
Some Digital TV and Blu-ray/DVD apps might not play protected content as expected after installing the August 29, 2025, Windows non-security preview update (KB5064081), or later updates.

Apps that use Enhanced Video Renderer with HDCP enforcement or Digital Rights Management (DRM) for digital audio might show copyright protection errors, frequent playback interruptions, unexpected stops, or black screens.

Streaming services are not affected.

Workaround
This issue is partially resolved. Problems affecting certain applications that use Enhanced Video Renderer with HDCP enforcement have been addressed in the September 2025 Windows preview update (KB5065789) and later updates.

We recommend installing the latest update for your device. It includes important improvements and fixes, including a resolution for this issue.

However, some apps that use DRM for digital audio might still experience problems.

We’re investigating a long-term solution for affected apps and will share more information when it's available.

2 USB mouse and keyboard not working in the Windows Recovery Environment

Symptoms
After installing October 2025 security update (KB5066835), USB devices, such as keyboards and mice, do not function in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). This issue prevents navigation of any of the recovery options within WinRE. Note that the USB keyboard and mouse continue to work normally within the Windows operating system.

Workaround
This issue is addressed in KB5070773.

1 This latest cumulative update includes updates for AI components. Even though the AI component updates are included in the update, the AI components are only applicable to Windows Copilot+ PCs and will not install on Windows PC or Windows Server.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

Could be, to be honest I don't use AI for anything except occasional searches and I have two AI machines one of which has a full co-pilot NPU lol. I'm curious what the big announcement will be though lol.

I'm usually not interested in AI, at least not the AI that I see some other people into. I generally build gaming/simulation workstations.

10 laptops in the house. Installed OK on 8, but got the 0x800f0983 error on 2 laptops, both at 100% installation (before reboot offered) & then flicked to retry. Two retries and no luck. Based on posts here decided to run "Fix Windows using Windows Update" in recovery. Worked, taking the laptop to .6899, but like someone else said above, that was the SLOWEST repair ever. Took 3.5hrs with excellent internet speed. Usually <1/2 that time. Just running repair on the other one now.

Interestingly, one of the two affected machines, is the same exact machine (HP spectre 13 2019) as one that installed with no issues. Both machines are set up IDENTICALLY in terms of software & all settings. Bizarre. The other machine that it failed on is an HP Envy 15.

All 10 had a sfc followed by DISM scanhealth the evening before updating, with no store corruption found.

EDIT: Second repair installation going much more quickly than the one I did last night. Is up to 64% at 30mins mark.

Windows updates have become a worrisome adventure anymore not knowing which way your update will go. Got lucky this one but I'm already worried how the next one will go lol.

I only ever had one update fail. For me, it was after I got the reclaimable packages down to zero.
And on Windows 10, I couldn't upgrade from 1909 to 2004.

In both cases, the good old In-Place Upgrade came to the rescue. :-)

Imagine if you are in an open plan office, and everybody is talking, shouting, swearing at their pcs. The noise level could become intolerable.

Any self respecting corporation would disable this nonsense immediate via Group Policy LOL.

The simplest description of this mode of operation is "A solution to a problem we do not have!".

I accept for some people with disabilities, this could be a useful feature BUT it is a two edged sword. Deaf people could find the additional noise in an open plan office drowning peoples speech (I have difficulty hearing people in noisy pubs).

I was experimenting with those reclaimable packages a bit longer then you just to see if the trend of errors I had was when I removed them. All but one error occurred after removing the packages. Also now I see so many having similar WU errors including this build that I can't imagine they all removed reclaimable packages before doing updates. In any event I'm leaving the reclaimable packages alone for the time being and just observing their behavior and numbers. I went from 3 packages after build 26200.6725 down to 2 packages after this build 26200.6899 and will be leaving them and observing how the next update goes as well.

(1) go to HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/winevt/channels, and delete "Microsoft-Windows-Store/Operational". Might be a good idea to save/export the key first, so you have a backup.
(2) go to HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/winevt/channels/publishers and delete "{53e3d721-2aa0-4743-b2db-299d872b8e3d}".
(3) Reboot and retry the update.

Explanation: in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log, I saw an error message about a log being "declared by an existing provider" (search for that string in CBS.log), and that log was "Microsoft-Windows-Store/Operational". The GUID from #2 is from the corresponding error message.

After deleting both keys, the 0x800f0922 error was gone, and the log was re-created correctly (so I don't expect any subsequent problems from deleting those registry keys, because the log is now working correctly).

If you see similar errors, but for a different log, just modify steps #1 and #2 for the respective log names and GUID.

Every AI app can do it atleast on Nvidia, except the Mighty Microsoft Windows can't. At this point I think its on purpose to force every CPU manufacturer to make a NPU and waste precious silicon space.

Anyway 0x800f0983 lives on...

I usually recommend media that at least has '6584, at this point. Especially with the major mess that occurred this summer!

Windows Explorer is bugged before '6584, FYI. At least since '6584, the unblock option in the file context menu was finally fixed.
That should have been fixed before it was even 2025!

When I first went to 11, back in April, 2022, with 21H2, it was not a mess like it was with 24H2!

'6584 is the September CU. That's KB5065426.

I haven't heard of the Windows recovery having USB input device issues.

@Stigg did you see my post on page 6, no. 110 . I tried all on the video, + the MS Catalog, none worked.
So I went to the repair ver. with 25H2 26200.6728 (I've had 25H2 since the start of October)
How it installed - I don't know took appx: 3 - 4 hours
but it kicked me up to 25H2 (OS Build 26200.6899)
good luck, The Video is back on-line
But it's in my Update History Uninstall updates .... cheers
