Insider KB5070300 Windows 11 Insider Dev and Beta build 26220.7070 (25H2) - Nov. 7

UPDATE 11/17:

 Windows Insider Blog:

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7070 (KB5070300) to the Dev & Beta Channels.

As a reminder we are offering the same builds to both the Dev & Beta Channels on Windows 11, version 25H2.

If you are an Insider in the Dev Channel, you now have a window to switch from the Dev Channel to the Beta Channel if you would like. This window will only be open for as long as we’re releasing the same 25H2-based updates across both the Dev and Beta Channels. After we move Dev Channel forward to a higher build number, the opportunity to switch between these channels will close. When the Dev Channel jumps ahead, things might not be as stable as the Dev Channel is today, so we highly encourage you to evaluate which channel you would like to be in during the time in which the window to switch is open.

Changes in Dev & Beta Channel builds and updates are documented in two buckets: new features, improvements, and fixes that are being gradually rolled out for Insiders who have turned on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available (via Settings > Windows Update*) and then new features, improvements, and fixes rolling out to everyone in the Dev & Beta Channels. For more information, see the Reminders section at the bottom of this blog post.

New features gradually being rolled out with toggle on*

Widgets

Choose your default dashboard in an updated Widget Board Settings
  • Launching the Widget Board when it’s showing live weather content will now open the first dashboard in your navigation bar instead of your most recently used dashboard for a more predictable Widget Board experience.
  • To modify your default dashboard, navigate to the new full-page Widgets Settings experience by clicking the gear icon at the bottom of your Widget navigation bar and re-arrange your desired default dashboard to the top position.

Widgets board with a redesigned Widget Settings page that allows dashboard to be re-arranged
Widgets board with a redesigned Widget Settings page that allows dashboard to be re-arranged

See numbered badges on the Widget Board navigation bar

Badges on the dashboard icons in the Widget navigation bar will now show numbers corresponding to the number of alerts from that dashboard. Navigation bar badges clear automatically when you leave a dashboard, making it easy to track what’s new.

Changes and Improvements for everyone

[Recovery]

  • We’re updating Quick Machine Recovery in Windows – Microsoft Support make getting back to a working PC clearer and faster. The experience in both Windows Settings and the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) has been streamlined so options are easier to find and use. On PCs with the settings “quick machine recovery” and “automatically check for solutions” both enabled, QMR now runs a one‑time scan by default instead of repeating scans in a loop. If a fix isn’t available right away, you won’t be left waiting; QMR will quickly point you to the most appropriate recovery options to get you back up and running.

In Settings for Systems, Recovery, “Quick machine recovery” and “Automatically check for solutions” are enabled to run a onetime QMR scan by default.
In Settings for Systems, Recovery, “Quick machine recovery” and “Automatically check for solutions” are enabled to run a onetime QMR scan by default.

Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out with toggle on*

[Smart App Control]

  • We’re updating Smart App Control (SAC) so you will now be able to switch SAC off or on without any clean install requirement. To make changes, go to Windows Security > App & Browser Control > Smart App Control settings.
  • When it’s on, it helps block untrusted or potentially harmful apps. You can learn more about SAC App & Browser Control in the Windows Security App – Microsoft Support.

[File Explorer]

  • We are re-enabling people icons under the “Activity” column in File Explorer Home detailed here.

[File Explorer]

  • We are temporarily turning off the integration supporting the StorageProvider APIs for cloud providers as detailed here.
  • We are temporarily turning off support for frequently used and recently downloaded recommended files in File Explorer as detailed here.

Fixes gradually being rolled out with toggle on*

[General]

  • Fixed an underlying issue which was causing interacting with the desktop to unexpectedly open Task View recently for some people.

[File Explorer]

  • Fixed an issue where Shift + Click (or middle clicking) on File Explorer in the taskbar wasn’t opening a new File Explorer instance.
  • Fixed an issue where the File Explorer active tab title might not display bolded until you hovered your mouse over it.

[Taskbar]

  • Fixed an issue which could lead to the “Automatically hide the taskbar” setting unexpectedly turning off, after seeing a message saying “a toolbar is already hidden on this side of your screen”.

[Settings]

  • Fixed an issue which could lead to Settings hanging when trying to navigate to the Network & Internet section.

Known issues

[Taskbar & System Tray]

  • We’re investigating an issue which is causing the Start menu to not open for some Insiders on click, although it will open if you press the Windows key. It’s believed this issue may also potentially impact the notification center (which you can open with WIN + N).
  • We’re investigating an issue where for some Insiders apps aren’t showing in the system tray when they should be.

[File Explorer]

  • Copy progress might flash when clicking more or less details in dark mode version of the copy dialog.
  • Scrollbar and footer are missing and showing a white block instead when text is scaled in dark mode version of the copy dialog.

[Recall]

  • [NEW] We’re working on the fix for an issue causing some Insiders to see a message saying they don’t have an eligible camera for Recall when they do.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Dev & Beta Channels

  • Updates are based on Windows 11, version 25H2 via an enablement package (Build 26220.xxxx).
  • Many features are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • For Windows Insiders who want to be the first to get features gradually rolled out to you, you can turn ON the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update*. Over time, we will increase the rollouts of features to everyone with the toggle turned on. Should you keep this toggle off, new features will gradually be rolled out to your PC over time once they are ready.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features may change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, please report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.
  • Check out Flight Hub for a complete look at what build is in which Insider channel.
Thanks,
Windows Insider Program Team

I did nothing. A couple of days ago (after that last update) all I could get was this and I took screen shots because I was going to ask on here and then I discovered the 'move up and move down' option. It all seemed broken at this time.
The up and down in settings is for selecting Widgets or Discover as the default page. It does not add any options to the top bar. 🤷‍♂️

The hardest thing for me to comprehend in this post is the page 3 ramblings of @fg2001gf11F not aware of "A\B" testing of apps, especially on beta editions of anything.

Like, since 2023 the number of A\B tests of when you will get a rollout of something is totally unknown to us unless they note in the comments of the blog notes that there is a slow rollout.

I've had only a couple of times that I have had to use ViveTools to get a feature after it never appeared for me and I have not had to reformat since July 2023 when I moved from Canary to Dev.

I have had a few features come and go.

I have been beta testing Google apps for a decade and if there is a company that releases a more A\B testing to everyone with also slow rollouts despite saying (or not) that "X feature is released", it's them. Patience man lol

Some user operation configuration may affect whether these rollout features can be enabled in the system. If you use third-party software to completely disable the Windows Update service, and always update security update packages offline (via DISM). Then these gradually rolled-out features and improvements will never be enabled on your system.

I'm perfectly aware of A/B testing, that doesn't mean that I have to like it.
Too many inconsistent results.
I have been testing software and microcode probably much longer than you.
Microsoft should disclose the crap that they are rolling out so that we can properly test it instead of navigating in the dark. 😝🤬🤬🤷‍♂️

Thanks, I just looked and yes it is on but I have not knowingly done that. The 'new look' appeared mid morning, it was not like that earlier. Odd. Thinks do seem to change on their own.

Yes indeed.

I did have one thought though... its true the format changed without me doing anything as such but I remember turning on my ancient laptop for 10 minutes to look something up in between times. That runs the public release of W11 as 'unsupported hardware' and I'm wondering if the setting was somehow enabled on that one (but again maybe not as something I remember doing) and that change was picked up via syncing of machines via my MS account.

Other weirdness I'll mention while I'm here.

File Explorer occasionally switches from this:

Screenshot 2025-11-15 052652.webp

to this where the drives lose there labels. Only fix is a restart but see next image as well:

Screenshot 2025-11-15 052542.webp

When in the above state if I open Macrium the labelling is correct but it still remains incorrect in File Explorer:

Screenshot 2025-11-15 052415.webp

That is the first issue.

Second is that it is 50:50 on opening Edge, either as first opening of the day or through a session as to what I see. If I open a second tab then that tab gets the picture:

Edge1.webp

Edge2.webp

Edge in the latest builds now does not seem to flash the 'location is in use' icon up on the taskbar each and every time it is closed.

(and I just found out that Paint now lets you use one colour if you left click and another if you right click such as when drawing lines or using brushes. That probably changed ages ago... only just noticed)

So there we go. No new build this week by the looks of it?

This widgets board is on one machine with Build 26220.7070 Dev and clearly does not have a full-page setting as advertised in the blog.
Settings is just an overlay in the middle of the page, as it used to be before this new format.
Also note the options on the top bar, different from all the other machines with the same Build#, which don't show any of those options on the top bar, and have a full-page "Settings".

1763189193753.webp

Same Build on a different machine, nothing on the top bar. But I think it is just a bad color combination. If I change color scheme I then see some of the options.

and full-page settings. 😵‍💫🤷‍♂️

Changing color scheme, I see these options but not the "Copilot Discover (Preview)" that I had on the 1st shot. Pretty messy

This is on mine; my drives show the labels normally on this 26220.7070 build.
Mine show normally most of the time and then will just suddenly lose the labels. Very odd and odd how Macrium still picks them up correctly during those times.

For your second issue with Edge, I don't understand what you are showing without knowing how your EDGE settings are.
Its the lack of consistency in what happens that is the issue. Click Edge to open and I might get a dark screen with no picture and then next time I do. I am not altering anything that might account for this. The picture version welcomes me by name, the other does not.

I found out what color settings combination makes the Widgets top bar text unreadable.
Clearly this is a bug that Microsoft needs to fix.

If I use these Custom settings the text on the top bar becomes unreadable.

1763198495989.webp
Looks like they are using dark text on dark background, so the text is unreadable.

If I change settings to both Dark, or both Light then the text becomes readable.

Setting Dark and Dark makes the text readable.

Maybe just the "Good Morning" in this corner. 😎😂😂🤷‍♂️

Looks like they fixed the color problem on 11/15/2025.
Tried on Dev and R.P. and the text is now readable with the same settings that was failing yesterday. 👍
I guess the saw my FBH reports. 😂🤷‍♂️

Fixed on 11/15/2025 on R.P. and Dev but they broke it now on public build 26200.7171. 😝🤷‍♂️

I like this variation below better with the option for Copilot Discover (Preview) available right on the top bar. 😉
I wish I knew which CFR is enabling this. 😎

Instead of this one. 😵‍💫

1763240602872.webp

Edit:
Today after checking for updates and rebooting the one I like better with the Copilot Discover (Preview) on the top bar just disappeared.
MS changed a bunch of CFRs without any warning. 😝🤬🤷‍♂️

Later in the afternoon it showed up again on a Beta machine with this same Build 26220.7070. 🤣🤣🤣
Could be a change only on the server side?
