Hello Windows Insiders,

These release notes are for Windows 11 Builds 26100.9539, 26200.9539 and 26300.9539 (KB5124010) in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, versions 24H2 (Build 26100), 25H2 (Build 26200) and 26H2 (Build 26300).

This update is available through two release phases: gradual rollout and normal rollout. A gradual rollout  delivers an update in phases, so features reach devices over time instead of all at once, meaning availability varies by device. A normal rollout  is the broad release to all eligible devices at the same time, usually when it reaches general availability (GA).

Gradual rollout

This section highlights some new features and enhancements for Windows 11 PCs, including AI-powered capabilities, continuous innovation, and performance improvements.

File Explorer
  • New! This update adjusts how the preview pane handles files downloaded from the web. For HTML files, a new Preview anyway button lets you acknowledge the warning and preview the file. Non-HTML files, such as PDFs, are now previewed automatically.
  • New! File Explorer Home now preserves the state of sections (expanded or collapsed), so you can pick up where you left off.
  • New! This update improves the reliability of thumbnail previews for cloud files in the Details pane. The pane has also been reorganized so file properties are easier to find and review at a glance.
  • New! The update addresses an issue that could clear the address bar contents when entering edit mode by clicking near the right side of the address bar.
Emoji
  • New! This update adds support for Emoji 17.0, including new emoji such as distorted face, fight cloud, and hairy creature. To insert them, press the Windows key + Period (.) to open the emoji panel.
  • New! This update also refines the design of several existing emoji for better consistency across platforms, including saluting face, face with peeking eye, goose, lotus, and kissing cat.

Kiosk mode

This feature, introduced through a phased rollout, previously allowed you to transfer files and settings directly from your previous PC when setting up a new Windows PC. My dual-boot torturing continues. Due to SVN update, my second Windows installation cannot boot.

New SVN=11; second Windows installation SVN=9. Cannot boot.

This is what I get when I choose to boot to other Windows 11 25H2 installation.

Time to repeat old-school method. Disable Secure Boot and continue my life.

Windows update did not update firmware SVN number. I did it with my own hands because @garlin 's secure boot check script told me to do it. I wish I hadn't listened to @garlin for once only. 😊

I am on this build of Windows (26300.9538) and have enabled the Context Menu feature using ViveTool; 0.34 but I still cannot see it listed in the Settings > Personalisation section under Taskbar. Also, there are no changes to the right-click context menu.

What am I doing wrong?

The Context Menu feature appears to have been forcibly disabled by Microsoft in general builds.

Thank you for the reply. I thought that might have been the case as other ViveTool features have all worked for me including the new Taskbar and Start menu options.

You also need to enable 49453572. It’s a prerequisite for some Insider experimental features and is enabled by default on Insider builds, but disabled by default on retail builds. The Context Menu feature depends on it.

You can enable both with:

ViVeTool /enable /id:60813048,49453572

After that, the Context Menu feature should work even on a retail build.

60813048 depends on 49453572 to work. It’s disabled by default on retail builds, so you just need to enable 49453572 and it should work.

The Context Menu update introduced in build 26340.9482 is also available in this build. It adds the new first-time teaching tip for the customization options, lets you disable the Customize entry from the new context menu settings, and also includes fixes for the Send To option.

This part is controlled by feature ID 61934903, so the complete set of IDs needed to enable the updated context menu customization is:

ViVeTool /enable /id:60813048,49453572,61934903

I tested this feature on a virtual machine; enabling ID 49453572 on general build seems to activate some experimental features.:wink:

Yes. Previous builds do not need this 49453572 experimental ID.

If you have experience removing/adding certificates in BIOS, you can reset only the DBX Management database. This action will clear SVN credentials to disable the Windows SVN mechanism.

Currently, Microsoft is not enforcing the Windows SVN policy, this is an optional step.

Any request for you to apply SVN policies could be malicious. Do not manually execute SVN policies without understanding their function.

When the SVN is not used, it's possible for attackers to silently revert your EFI's boot manager file to an older (and presumably broken) version which can be exploited. Since there is no other checks performed on what version of the boot manager is kept in the EFI volume, other than it has an allowed Secure Boot cert, you won't know about a potential problem.

It's your PC, but there are enough credible threats to justify revoking PCA 2011 for most users.

We used to have PC's without Secure Boot. Now it's the normal way of life. Eventually everyone will learn and adjust.

There is no such thing as 100% security. unless Microsoft strictly implements SVN policy, the situation won't actually be any better when users disable Secure Boot after encountering issues.

Nor will you provide substantive solutions for users facing issues with SVN policy. Users might choose to disable Secure Boot to allow Windows to boot normally. This actually increases the risk.

These work for beta builds but not RP I'm afraid as Microsoft overrides the codes in RP preventing them from enabling.
