Hello Windows Insiders,

These release notes are for Windows 11 Builds 26100.9539, 26200.9539 and 26300.9539 (KB5124010) in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, versions 24H2 (Build 26100), 25H2 (Build 26200) and 26H2 (Build 26300).

This update is available through two release phases: gradual rollout and normal rollout. A gradual rollout  delivers an update in phases, so features reach devices over time instead of all at once, meaning availability varies by device. A normal rollout  is the broad release to all eligible devices at the same time, usually when it reaches general availability (GA).

Gradual rollout

This section highlights some new features and enhancements for Windows 11 PCs, including AI-powered capabilities, continuous innovation, and performance improvements.

File Explorer
  • New! This update adjusts how the preview pane handles files downloaded from the web. For HTML files, a new Preview anyway button lets you acknowledge the warning and preview the file. Non-HTML files, such as PDFs, are now previewed automatically.
  • New! File Explorer Home now preserves the state of sections (expanded or collapsed), so you can pick up where you left off.
  • New! This update improves the reliability of thumbnail previews for cloud files in the Details pane. The pane has also been reorganized so file properties are easier to find and review at a glance.
  • New! The update addresses an issue that could clear the address bar contents when entering edit mode by clicking near the right side of the address bar.
Emoji
  • New! This update adds support for Emoji 17.0, including new emoji such as distorted face, fight cloud, and hairy creature. To insert them, press the Windows key + Period (.) to open the emoji panel.
  • New! This update also refines the design of several existing emoji for better consistency across platforms, including saluting face, face with peeking eye, goose, lotus, and kissing cat.

Windows Recovery (WinRE)

Devices can now get online automatically during recovery scenarios such as quick machine recovery or cloud rebuild, without preconfiguring Wi-Fi credentials in WinRE. Kiosk mode
  • The Windows key plus Tab keyboard shortcut is now disabled when using a restricted UX kiosk.
  • The Windows key plus A and Windows key plus C keyboard shortcuts are now disabled when using single app kiosk mode.
Windows Backup 
  • PC-to-PC Migration is no longer available. This feature, introduced through a phased rollout, previously allowed you to transfer files and settings directly from your previous PC when setting up a new Windows PC.     With all this gaming rig I am not a gamer!
I had some trouble with the new context menu reverting back to the classic context. It was the registry entry I made to get the classic context menu a long time ago. Removed it and everything is file.

Also, somehow dism ... /scanhealth is clean now (it wasn't after this update). I didn't do anything - I reckon it was a server side issue and they fixed it.

Me too. And the registry entries to enable "modern run" no longer work. Why is this even a roll out feature? It must not be that complicated, - it worked - so why isn't it in a monthly security update rather than a phased rollout?

I had it in experimental then switched to RP and had it for a while I believe (with the enabling registry entries). 🤷‍♂️

My point in my post above was, I wanted to note that Windows Update increased the SVN of the Windows files but it did not update the SVN of the UEFI firmware. I do not know if it must have updated the SVN of the firmware as well or was it a glitch of the update process.

I updated SVN of UEFI firmware aftter running @garlin 's check script and following the comments in the Audit section.

Therefore, if Windows users want to keep their Windows installations current as regards Secure Boot, they must keep this in mind that Windows Update does not update UEFI firmware SVN. Periodic check of Windows installations after Windows Update by @garlin 's Secure Boot status check will be helpful.

Regarding my two Windows installations, I disabled secure boot temporarily in BIOS and updated the other Windows installation. After that, enabling Secure Boot put my system back to its previous secure state, whether Secure Boot does its job well or not.

The Secure Boot update task runs every 12 hours, or 5 min. after a reboot.

It checks if there's a new SVN available in the DBXUpdateSVN.bin file. The first step is to deploy a new Windows boot manager (with the newest SVN) to the EFI. The update task will not force a reboot, it will patiently wait until some other Windows process (or the user) orders a reboot. When the task runs again on reboot, it finds there is a new boot manager running so it's allowed to change the SVN.

The DBX SVN is updated, but the task wants one more reboot to confirm the SVN is being enforced.

This process can happen in parallel with the usual Monthly Updates. The task doesn't force a reboot, but waits for Windows Update to reboot the system as part of the normal maintenance. When you have a SVN update, Windows will reboot three times instead of the usual two times.

When SVN and boot manager updates don't happen, it could by caused by the task being disabled/removed or a safety check blocks the task from proceeding.
