in my dell 7586 the nvme slot does not have a screw hole at the end for my new longer samsung 980 nvme ? the nvme in pic is what came with laptop, i have not removed it yet.

By the looks of it, you can remove the metal bracket once the small nvme drive is unscrewed and then you can move it to the 2280 place under the black tabs...

thanks it all worked out a treat, used MiniTool Partition Wizard, worked perfectly, as did moving the mount, just slides backwards..

Yeah that's a very weird m.2 mount system Dell pickle came up with lol :boom:
Most just look the same mount as a desktop would use.

That particular scheme of mounting M.2 drives struck me as just plain nuts, to coin a phrase.

There may be some good reason to require a separate part rather than just building a couple of posts into the motherboard (as is usually done with desktop motherboards), but it's not obvious to me.

To make things even more interesting, some Dells with multiple M.2 slots use 2 kinds of post adapters.
