Talking of hardware upgrades, I treated one of my laptops to an SSD upgrade at the weekend. At just 128GB my Dell Latitude 3190 was feeling a little cramped :D

You know me well by now, I never buy new if I can help it. ;) I spotted that my local branch of CeX had a Kioxia BG4 512GB, exactly the same type as Dell used in their laptops (and identical to the factory fitted one in my Latitude 5410). Paid £30 for it ($38 US). Checks out as perfectly healthy and I'm using it right now.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

This new cpu I'm getting is the last cpu this motherboard can take. Also the fastest cpu I can put in her. So this will be my last cpu update ....at least for this motherboard.

That's good to know. Would a m/board change loose the digital license then? Or do you have the digital license linked to your MS account?

I only ever use the free version of Malwarebytes (and then only occasionally) so that wouldn't bother me.

Thanks. It was getting to be a pain running my Insider Dev/Canary 24H2 builds on an unsupported device with all the workarounds I needed to use.

Now I have the space I've migrated them over to this Latitude 3190, a fully supported device for W11. Migration was simple, they're all native boot vhdx so I just had to copy the vhdx files over to the new drive and set up the boot menu entries.

If I remember right Bree, it is linked to my MS account. Last time I changed my motherboard, windows had no issues.

I also won't be changing this motherboard anytime soon. But ....I do have the older motherboard I took out of this pc sitting in a box. I'm going to install it into my 2nd pc (My spare and my backup) one of these days.

If you sign in with your MS account it's always linked to it, and if you ever did have issues the Activation Troubleshooter would easily sort it out. That's one of the key advantages of signing in with an MS account.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Well just found out that Firefox won't sign in to my MS account , but my google chrome has no issue ....strange.

Odd, I usually use Edge (chromium) to sign into mine, but it works in Firefox too.....

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.
