Good morning Scannerman.

I always look like a man - the beard and the male pattern baldness are a dead giveaway :ROFLMAO:
I have facial hair but I also have a widow's peak. I'll likely never go bald.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
Good morning Marie.

Your body obviously felt it still had some catching up to do. I hope you feel all the better for your extra 2 hours.
Afternoon Bree :-)
Yeah my body do need the sleep... but i also know i will suffer those +2 hours tonight for it.. as my awaken time always ends up in 17 hours.. so that part sucks. :-)

Maybe your body will let you get away with just 16½ hours for the next few days. It might not notice you trying to slip your wakeup time back a bit if you do it slowly ;)

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

or... i just take the hit on Wednesday with going up 2 hours earlier then my body is used to, then 1 hour earlier i had planned. :-)

My waken time is almost identical.. i can shorten the sleep hours and extend my awaken hours, but i have never manage to shorten my awaken hours my whole life.

My hair grows long fast too. It was starting to push about a foot too long. It's good to look like a man again.

My first experience online was with a 300 Baud Dial up modem and connecting to a local Bulletin Board Service where one can post text files and such. That was not all that much fun, then later came Windows DOS which was OK but to some users quite complected. I learned to code in the 1980's using a TRS-80 built by Tandy Corporation. It had two large Floppy drives, one had The OS and the other was used for storage. I won't bore you with the next events, but back in the 80's-90's there was no AI and an OS was just that an Operating System which one can install any program that was legal and No conglomerate corporation tried to control everything. 👽

I started with computers in school 1986 and then i got my first PC 1987(or if it was 1988) i have forgotten as its so long time ago.. I also started with a modem.. 2400 Baud and connected to BBS databases.. I didn't get internet as we know internet today until the spring of 1994 and that was with a 14.4 baud modem and then later 28 and then 56 within a year.. Then i got broadband over coax in 1995.. and i no longer got phone bills on $100/month *LOL* 😅

Its kind of fun to have been online since internet we know it was born. :-)
It was not to many websites, and Google and that was not even a thing.. finding websites over indexes an all that. :-)

There were no computers when I was at school. I didn't see a computer until university in the 70's. The only programming language I was ever formally taught was Fortran at uni, we wrote on punched cards and had to wait for the batch jobs to run overnight on an ICL1906 mainframe - debugging was tedious!

I also moonlighted on some of the electronics department's PDP8e and taught myself FOCAL (an interpreter similar to BASIC). That was working on a teletype and stored on paper tape. If I was very lucky I could get time on the one PDP8e that had the magnetic drum storage. (y)

I remember seeing computers that used punched cards and paper tape with holes in.. But i was just a kid and was not allowed to even go near them.
But computers before early 70's.. i have only seen them on museums. :-) It was before i was born and they was not in use from when i can remember my earliest childhood memory's :-)
So sometimes its fun to see daves garage on youtube as he made a few videos about some of the pdp series... But it would be more fun to actually tinker around with those old computers for real and not see it on a screen or in a museum :-)

I know you like retro stuff. Well... you can get your own PDP8 replica (powered by a Raspberry Pi) to play with.... ;)

Please note that you need to supply your own Raspberry Pi (Any Pi from the Pi Zero 2W on up).
If you are planning to use the PiDP-8 just as a PDP-8 replica, it is a great application for older, slower, Raspberry Pi's.

In 1987 I became a Dad. I was far too busy working to support a family to mess with PCs. Then in 1989 my first daughter was born. Shortly thereafter I met Jim, the man whose computer stuff I recently inherited. Jim was patient with me. I had a modest interest in electronics (CB radios, scanners, high fidelity sound systems etc.) and of course, like many young lads in that day, I liked to fiddle with components.

Jim would come over for visits and bring his bread boards with him and attempt to teach me computer basics. Some of it I would actually comprehend, much of it would be over my head. Didn't matter. Jim had many interests. After dinner we would go out to the gun range and do some target shooting. Then we would go back to his place and he'd go over some of the more serious stuff with me on an oscilloscope. The guy was intense. In 1992 I started playing around with a Commodore 64. In 1994 I graduated to a Tandy thanks to Jim. I never bothered with having my own Windows PC until 1999.

I remember when Jim tried to persuade me to forget about proprietary prebuilds and to build my own PC. He kept assuring me that a high school kid could do it. I was reluctant. By the time 2002 rolled around I was brave enough to start switching out RAM and hard drives and was well acquainted with Windows. By 2004 not only was I building my own PCs but I was also building them for others and doing PC repair. I have always been a bit of a Johnny-come-lately. It was around this time when my doctor told me I had to slow down and to consider going on permanent medical. I ignored him. (Probably shouldn't have done that.) Instead, I found a lovely lady from Louisiana online and decided that more family would be a great idea. That's how I wound up with three more lovely daughters.

All three of those girls have been at a keyboard since they were in diapers. They are very computer savvy and sometimes they make me feel like a complete Luddite. Yesterday, I caught the ginger yelling at one of her friends via web cam because they didn't know a thing about PC maintenance. I had to take her aside and explain to her gently that most kids in her generation are all into hand held devices and are clueless when it comes to PCs. I told her she had to be patient because not all kids grew up with their own desktop since they were in diapers.

The legend lives on.
