    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Well, fun fact today.

Today is the first ever time the 4 top World Cup seeds are all in the semi finals.

This is in part due to the draw setup whereby if all top 4 seeds topped their group stages (as they did), they could not meet each other until the semifinals.

So perhaps it is not quite a landmark situtation but nonetheless, it kind of proves Europe is still the most dominant football culture (hardly likely because of the huge monetary investment).

Of course, one can never rule out South Americans such as Argentina and perhaps Brazil.

What was encouraging to see is the rise of the African nations (Morocco and Egypt in particular).

One thing is sure, the days where World Cup minnows got trounced is long gone and any team could get a shock result on its day.

I am a great Haaland fan, and even as an England fan, I was slightly saddened to see him be substituted but in the end, he had given his all.

People say about it being an end of an era with Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar retiring but as old soldiers fade away, new ones come to the fore e.g. Haaland, Bellingham, Mbappé etc.

This is why the world cup is the greatest tournament in the world. It is the only tournament in the world if you ask who is going to win the world cup, you do not have to even state which sport you are referring to. The only qualification needed may be gender (men or women).
