No studs are illegal. With the volumes on our roads there would be no roads left.

I don't do much work, I call the tire guys I've worked with for over 20 years. Tell them what I'm looking for and they put together some packages to pick from. We get wheels and tires so it is a quick swap each fall and spring.

oh-really.. i thought you had studs too as you have the same winters as we do... They need to make better roads then as our roads hold up for it. and we do have some traffic too.. But big trucks(lorry's) is forbidden to have it as they would eat up the roads with that heavy loads

Not like our traffic volume. We have 12 lane highways that are bumper to bumper. We are closing in on nearly 7 million people in the GTA and our mass transit is wanting.

12 lane highways... i would love to take my summer car in the middle of the night when its empty and flat it out.

I have never tested the top speed as our roads that is long and straight dont have more then 2 lines in each direction.. its only around stockholm we have 8 lanes(4 in each direction) and its not straight long enough. 2 lines becomes a bit narrow at speeds over 250kph/155mph.

Morning Charlie.

Our main highway, the 401 across Toronto is never, ever empty. Same with the 400 from Barrie to Toronto. There are some great long straight sections away from the urban centres that you could open it up as long as you don't get caught. Maximum speed in Ontario on some of those long stretches is 110km/hr. They actually impound your car for serious offences. Yesterday a new driver was clocked 105km in a 50 zone.

Here is what he is looking at. (Does not include what the insurance companies will impose.)

Immediate Roadside Penalties

- Licence Suspension: 30-day driver's licence suspension
- Vehicle Impoundment: 14-day vehicle impoundment at roadside (at your own expense, whether you own the car or not) [1]

Court-Imposed Penalties (Upon Conviction)

- Fines: A minimum fine of $2,000 up to a maximum of $10,000. [1]
- Jail Time: Up to 6 months in jail (possible discretion of the court). [1]
- Demerit Points: 6 demerit points added to your driving record. [1]
- Post-Conviction Licence Suspension:
  - 1st conviction: 1 to 3 years
  - 2nd conviction: 3 to 10 years
  - 3rd conviction: Lifetime suspension (reducible after 10 years)
  - 4th conviction: Non-reducible lifetime suspension [1]

okay.. they do not impound our cars, but 30kph over and they take our drivers licence for 6 months.. then 60 over they take it for more then a year, and then you have to take it all over again. Jail time is rare, but it is there on the scale depending on circumstances.
But if you drive without a licence and you get caught more then once, then they will impound your car and you dont get it back.
As for the fines.. i dont remember the sums, but they isn't nice. *LOL*

The police cars dont do more then 250kph and they are slow 0-60mph/0-100kph, so long as you dont get a police bike or a helicopter you can make it with a fast car if you are a good driver.

Very serious about speeding. Would like to see that here. Way to many people die here because of speed.

that is rare here.. it's only a small percentage of people that speeding 20+kph.. most people that speeds may do that 5 to10kph over the limit on 50/60/70/80/90/100/110/120kph roads, below 50 roads is really rare at all.
