That one i dont know how it works in U.S. But you can easy steal those peoples google/facebook account credentials. Just set up a login page you can see on many websites sign in with your Facebook or Google or Microsoft account. As you have the page you create a log that capture the input they do, and then as soon they click on sign in, you let them out on the internet.. They will think they just got free internet without even know you just stole their credentials. :devilish:
And i just realized Brink might delete this post as soon he sees it, as it is an half HowTo even i dont describe the whole process of how to actually set it up.

i dont hate wifi.. but it is not as reliable as ethernet and it has higher latency.
I live in the country, and I have had strangers on my WiFi, and you are right wifi is not reliable, it drops all the time.
How? Don't you have a password on your WiFi? I have, and I have disabled WPS at the router.

Anyway, My router is in the same room as all my equipment, nothing is more that 5m/16ft from the router. Reliability is solid.
I have FTTP with a 150Mbps plan from my ISP. My router can run its own speedtest, this is what it can see connected direct to the fibre coming into the house.

My System Six can use WiFi-6 or 1 Gigabit Ethernet. I've just tested both, Ethernet on the left, WiFi on the right. Can't see much to choose between them.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:

Yes I have a password set, but they hacked it, then I blocked them, but they just changed their MAC and logged in again, then I reconfigured the router to just allow MACs that are stored on the router, which stopped them cold. I have fiber to the router 370Mbps the slowest speed offered.

Yes I have a password set, but they hacked it....
WPS is one of the easier vulnerabilities to hack, which is why I disable it on my router.

You need WPA3 to be safe so far from them gaining the wifi password hash for cracking.... and disable all lower ones so a downgrade attack dont work.
But its only a matter of time before they hack WPA3 and dont need to do a downgrade attack to force the devices down on WPA2.

That took its time... This evening i have created a Bash script to Create a new computer user named Hermes and then install Hermes-Agent on Debian user Hermes and use a free cloud AI model and then make rules to only allow Hermes install Nvidia, Cuda etc tools/packages and local LLM models and set it up for local use only but still not get root access.

Its easier to sit at an computer with a big screen making a script, then sitting on a 14" screen and try to install it all manually.
Will it work... that will be seen tomorrow as its after 4AM and i know how eeeeeasy it is to get stuck at an computer installing stuff and then 3 hours is gone. even it "just" should ONLY have taken 20 minutes. *LOL* 🤣

I need to keep WPA2 for the older machines to connect, but my password is 16+ random characters so should be a strong one :crossed
i hope you mixed in special characters and so too. Sadly with today's GPU server farms if you rent time, it dont take years to match a 16 character password if you have the hash and its not salted.

Edit:
But the risk of having an skilled unethical hacker as neighbor in the wifi range is less chance then winning the lottery. :-)

Why would anyone put that much effort into hacking a domestic WiFi? And why me in particular, when I can see a dozen others to pick from in the neighbourhood? And even if they could connect, what would they gain? The only device on 24/7 is the W11 file sever, and that has its own passwords.

    Info for 2021-2026:
fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.
